Hey there.

I just bought the K550 headphones on Amazon. Now I'm looking for a travel case that would fit the headphones and protect them, mostly for carrying them around in a backpack.

Also, any suggestions for a small cable manager would be appreciated. 3 meters is a bit long for walking around.

Thanks,
Budgetboy

Thinking of picking up one of these for cable management.

The black one seems big enough to wrap the cord around. Might stop by the container store this weekend.
Will report back :)

I put mine flat in my messenger bag. AKG actually boasted about the fact that K550 can lie flat against a flat surface. They really do not get any scratches this way.

I bought this and cut off the flaps. I believe this is the same bag MDR30 has (but he's in Europe).

Cord management, I just use the ziptie that came w/ the phones.

I just tied the cable up to a desired length: maybe say around 1.8m. That works if you have a lack of cash :D

Thanks for your responses!

inobobo - I think I would be too worried about the effects of the cable bending at such sharp angles. My M50 cable stopped transmitting both channels after months of use. I think I'm looking for something more like this: http://www.containerstore.com/shop/office/cordControl?productId=10000329. But let me know how it goes for you.

deaffob - Nice. I tried putting it in a special pocket of my backpack laying flat, and no damage so far. Still, I'd like to find a case if possible.

ricerocket - Cool, that looks cheap and durable. How well do the K550s fit in there?

harir - That looks real official. Keep in mind that the 50mm drivers and their earcups are bigger than most headphones. Still could work.

vinland - How could you?

I'm trying to make the cable convenient without risking damage to the cable. But hey, different strokes for different folks, right?

So I guess now that I've seen what case options are out there, now I'm really looking for a quality cable turtle that can hold the thicker gauge cable on the K550s, preferably holding up to 6ft of cable.

Does anyone know of a cable turtle that's decently high quality? If I can't find anything else, I'll probably go with something listed on Amazon as I have Prime.

I purchased a small padded notebook case (10"). It would be fine if you were putting it in a messenger bag/suitcase but not great for a back pack; its going back. I think I actually will look at pistol cases...

The Pelican 1400 hard camera case is out of my price range but looks perfect.

Wow, thanks for the advice~ I think you are right, the cable will probably damage overtime. Sorry about your M50s, might get that cable turtle you recommend instead. Thanks~

I took your advice and grabbed the same one.  While it is a tad big, I am able to keep it in a book bag with my laptop without any issues.  The case also has some pockets which could be used for an amp or additional cables.  Here are some pictures in case anyone else is interested.

Tdpeek3 - That looks really good, actually. And the listing makes it sound pretty durable as well. It looks a little big though, how does it work out for you in your day-to-day life?

Thanks for the great recommendation Ricerocket!

I've decided to forgo cable turtles and just get them re-terminated. Head-Fi user Soundstige has offered to do it for $25 + connector + shipping, and I'm also looking into using Moon Audio.
I'm thinking about half the length would be perfect. Long enough for that easy comfort when listening in bed, but short enough to tuck the excess into a pocket instead of looping it around my neck like some kind of audio cowboy.

budgetboy - It does work out really well for day-to-day use as I take these to work with me everyday.  As I mentioned before, it is a little large but in my opinion it is absolutely worth it considering the price and the protection.  My biggest reason for choosing this was that I needed something that I knew would not damage my headphones during travel.  The thick walls of the case prevent the headphones from being crushed, even when a modest amount of pressure is applied.  While it does fill out my book bag, it's totally worth having peace of mind knowing that even if someone were to bump into the bag, if I were to drop my bag on the ground, or if I was cramming my book bag in my trunk with a bunch of other luggage that the headphones would take no damage at all.  Here are a couple more pictures to give you a better idea of the size.  I hope that helps!

Has anyone bought and tried any of these cases with your AKG K550's?
