Who wrote/recorded this song originally? Was it the Yardbirds?

In my opinion it's the epitomical rock song, and it's been done so many times. Which versions do you guys like most?

Hey Kerely,

Since you've been into this stuff you should try to track down the album if you don't know it: "Eric Clapton and the Yardbirds live with Sonny Boy Williamson". And some very cool stuff in a closely related genre: "The Electric Flag".

How about Ginger Baker's Airforce??

I used to have the Yardbirds on vinyl, but gave it all away for nothing!

Plenty of others -- just about every rock band's done it live and a lot more than you think have done it in the studio. I'll try to dig up some examples. ...

Wow, so 1951. I never would have thought it was that old. Crazy.
