I've been perusing the forum for a while now and have some questions about a tube amp that I just got. First off let me say I'm totally new to the tube world and don't have much knowledge at all about this stuff. Sorry if I don't understand your replies. Like I said I just got a tube amp that was taken out of a console and redone. See below.

I'm having problems with the potentiometers not working properly. The first one on the left is the Treble. I get no response in the taper at all except when I turn it completely to the right it basically turns/cuts off the volume of the unit. The second one is the volume and it goes up a little when turned up 1/4 of the way and does nothing more when continuing to turn to the right. The 3rd knob is the bass and I hear a little difference in the lower frequency but not much. The 4th one is the balance and I get the separation that a left and right channel should. Now I'm not sure what the problem is but it seems like it's wired improperly. Or could it be bad potentiometers? If I were to change the pots, what kind do I need. Could I change them with some pots that I have from another tube amp project? I've changed the potentiometers in my bass guitar so are they wired the same?

I'm going to be of no particular help either, I would probably guess that the more experience builders will stuggle with this as well. It's not as easy as changing the pots, if you have a look at them there's resistors all over the place, are you experienced enough to change them? Do you know what there values are? Also this could all be a red herring, there may be other components that are causing this, and I wouldn't be putting my money on the pots.

Edit: Just had another look at the image, more than likely the pots are ok - but those solder joints look suspect. I would reflow all the solder joints from the pots again, before replacing them.

Looks like fun.
I don't know enough to offer a whole lot, but I do know that the voltages running around this thing can KILL you so please be very, very careful!
Also I know when I work on the older tube stuff I suspect the electrolytic caps first, especially the big multi-cap. One more thing, are you sure all the tubes ore good?
Have fun, it should sound nice, I like EL34 amps.

Thanks for the replies guys. John, I was going to resolder because if I move some of the points or even the tubes with a stick I get scratchiness/pops/clicks. I don't know the value of the resistors. I wouldn't know where to begin. Like I said I'm a total newb. I know how to solder though.
