I have had a Total Bithead Clear for about a year now - my first headphone amp - and for the money, it was a great bit of kit.

I used it occasionally as a DAC via USB from my laptop, but mostly as a straight headphone amp from my iPod, connected via the iPod headphone jack and running Shure E3c's.

I am upgrading now to a Predator as I finally have my Shure SE530s and a decent LOD cable on it's way, but the Bithead served me well as my introduction to the world of headphone amps and was definitely a clear cut above using the headphone jack from both the iPod and my Macbook Pro.

I liked the sound on the whole and I did like the cross channel mixing function/effect, especially with IEMs.

I found having to use the disposable batteries a bit annoying and it can't charge rechargeable batteries either, so you will need to stock up on AAAs if you are using it away from a powered USB source.

Seemed robust enough - certainly I have dropped it a few times with no ill effect, though I am not that keen on the rubberised battery bay cover....

Um - so yeah, on the whole I like it!

Don't have the BiTHead, but I do have the Total AirHead (clear as well!), and the sound is really nice. Not GREAT, but the series will have no problem driving the Denons. For the price and features, it's a good buy.

this is a great unit, just don't plan on using it as a portable amp, because the corner connectors make the thing huge and awkward to carry around in your pocket, but the sound was great in my opinion

Whenever I used a Total Airhead at home, I used it with the $15 optional wall-wart and saved the batteries. Worked great!

I'm listening to mine right now with SE530s. It's no slouch even compared to my GS-X (no it's not nearly as good but hey it cost me 1/10th as much) and it' better than the headphone out of my Creative Zen Vision M.

Though I do need to use a adjustable attenuator to get rid of the hiss on my IEMS.

Sorry, not really. I re-terminated them with balanced connectors (I also modded them using markl's instructions, HIGHLY RECOMMENDED). I have a balanced to SE converter but I have never tried to use the SE to mini-plug converter that came with my HD650s. If I'm home I never listen to the bit-head, it would be a waste with a GS-X and beta22 sitting there attached to a DAC1.

Cheers,
Chris

I dug out my mini-plug converter and hooked the d5000 up to the TBH. Using the Creative Zen as a source through line out and on low gain the TBH drove the d5000's very nicely. I also hooked it to the DAC1 for giggles and it dealt with that quite admirably too.

Is it a beta22 or a GS-X? NO! Is it loud, detailed and very enjoyable? yes!

ROCK ON!
