Hello!

This is my first post. I don´t speak English very good. Sorry!

I buy two units there are a few days a go of the Toshiba HR-910 electret vintage headphones(one never used in the original box).Incredibly for 25 years old. I think the sound is very flat, incredibly neutral and transparent.

What do you think about this vintage electret headphones??.

I have a very small collection of vintage units.

I have an Audio Technica ATH-7 and ATH-8. The two units in perfect working order.

One Pioneer SQ-404 (2 Ch-4Ch) never used.One Pioneer Monitor 10. One Pioneer Master 1 and the SE-205

I have too one Koss ESP-10 (electrostatic).Very good sound but very heavy.

Thank´s and good bye!

I'm very interested in what you have to say about them Emsa!
I have the ATH7 and it is a lovely phone. Not up to the standard of the STAX lambda overall, but I love it's tonal balance. Mellow whilst still maintaining great highs.

Hi skellington!

The Toshiba HR-910 is an incredibly headphone. Very very natural, without "excesive trasparency". Yes,you understand, without excesive transparency and "marvelous bright".

I think what the excesive transparency is not real. The sound of the Toshiba´s is neutral, flat. Very similar of the BBC speakers line. I listen the Stax headphones (Lambda Signature with his dedicated transformer) and wow!. The sound sensation is ¡Wow! but.... bright!! and clinical. This is my personal oppinion,oK?. The Toshiba electret HR-910 is absolutely flat, without any bright but very transparent witghout the ¡Whow! of the Stax. For my speak English is very dificult. You understand my words?.

I have the Audio technica ATH-7. Is fantastic!. No weight, very easy to listen, without the excesive "transparency" of the other electret and electrostatics designs. The ATH-8 is a little much better but only a little. I think the difference is in the bass response with a little more weight. The level of the clarity is very similar between the two units. The tonal balance in the Audio technica´s is very good. In the Stax goes to the bright side. I repeat, all is from my personal point of view. Yes,Ok,the Stax headphones are fantastics,but...

Best regards

Hi spritzer!

I like the Stax SR-X a lot. I think is more neutral than the Lambda´s. I´m crazy?

Yes,I think is more neutral and musical and don´t have the clinical sound of the Lambda´s.

I prefer the natural sound than the excesive transparency and "celestial bright". This type of sound is very impressive (ten minutes) but very very tired. This type of headphones are a "technical exercice of exhibition and investigation" but the sound, finally, is incredibly transparent but no real.

There's an ATH-7 on Fleabay right now but the dude won't sell to Canada!
Bummer!
I was hoping to have it in the line-up for my upcoming Electret Shootout.

The SR-X was designed to be a monitor and they are good at it. The original SR-Lambda (normal bias) was designed to build on the SR-x strengths but with more treble and bass and they pull it off although the later models don't. The 4070 is also a spectacular monitor and it uses the SR-404 drivers so the Lambdas could be much better.

Thanks for the replies Emsa. Your English is actually pretty impressive, better than most native speakers!

Excuse me Spritzer if I ask you a quick question. I have the original Lambda (normal bias). It already seems very bright to my tastes. Are the later models brighter?

Skellington and spritzer:

Skellington have a Lambda "normal bias".Please,I need information about this.

I think what the bright of the Lambdas depends of the ancillaires. I listen the Lambdas in a very high level system (Accuphase CD Player and Audio Note integrated amplifier 300B). The sound is very natural and the tonal balance is more neutral. The "problem" of the Lambdas is his hyper-transparency.This headphones needs a very high level source and amplifier. If you have this ,you are in the glory but always with a little bright in my oppinion.

Skellington,I listen the laters models. The tonal balance is very near of your Lambdas. In my oppinion, you don´t need a change to a new models because the difference is very very small.
