Hello. I am considering buying a Topping DX7S, and am wondering if I can disable the preamp so that I am only using the DAC. Most of the time, I likely would be using the built in pre, but I will eventually want to upgrade to a better one, and I would like to know if I can disable the one in the Topping once I get it. Thank you!

Yes, by double clicking the volume knob you can cycle between these modes (not sure about the order):
  • HP: no rear output, variable headphone output
  • DAC+HP: variable rear output, variable headphone output
  • DAC: fixed rear output, no headphone output
Personally, I'd rename the DAC+HP mode to PRE+HP.

I've actually since shifted my focus towards the SMSL SU-8. Regrettably, this unit also seems to have a pre. Does anyone know if a similar fixed DAC output setting exists on the SMSL?
