You know the small nut thing that holds the jack to a panel/case. Is there a special tool to screw those things tight? I keep on scratching my Mint Tin's when I tighten them.

Also, where can I get some spare nuts?

they looks like this:

Most of those ring nuts have two slots in them. There's a round tool made that will fit in those slots and straddle the threaded barrel, but I don't have a clue where to find one.

Pliers will work if you're careful. You might try hole-punching a piece of paper and slide it over the nut and threaded barrel. It should just clear the assembly, but completely cover the adjacent area of the endplate where your pliers may touch and scratch. Get the nut tightened and then tear away the paper.

Spare ring nuts may be ordered separately, I believe - check the Mouser hardware section. I think there's something listed in there. If not, you might be able to google a source for ring nuts.

They also have M6 knurled nuts @ Mouser but IIRC they are like 60 cents each in small quantities.... which is about what those jacks cost so.....

What a great idea to make your own MisterX

If you're into mechanical stuff (cars perhaps, etc.) you may have a tool around that *may* fit. Snap ring pliers. I'm too lazy to go through my garage and tips to see if one will fit though, it may or may not as the tips I have are for automotive usage. I always just use needle nose pliers or hand tighten with loctite.

If you don't, forget about it, probably more expensive than you need for nuts.

You can also make your own out of PC slot blocking thingies. Everyone has them, the aluminum/steel things that you take out when you put a card in. The edge that goes into the screw can be widened with a Dremel.
