Wow, great pics from a great show. That Taivanese electrostatic headphones looked nice. Anyone can tell the name of the brand?

  Thanks for pics!

ELI5 for you: CD and DVD are made of plastic that said there is no magnetic flux on it around it etc. CD cannot be magnetized ... hope you see where this is going :)

Maybe it helps to discharge static that can build up on the disc.  Might do a bit to protect components from stray electrons.

wipe it with anti-static wipe and you've got the same for $0,5

Not trying to sell the product, just my thoughts on why it might be a product (as the question was posed).  Through wipes will most certainly scratch the surface of a disc, and I'm guessing this device works without any physical contact.

This.

Yeah I was thinking that too, but I wouldn't run the risk of scratching your discs anyway.

Err....something. Not certain what.

That's a TakeT BPP Portable Supertweeter

Regarding the technology, super-tweeters offer an interesting take on audio.
I remember reading through this paper before when reading things about HD audio sampling rates (> 44.1 kHz) and ultra-sonic content:
http://www.tinnitusjournal.com/imagebank/pdf/v13n1a02.pdf

Whether or not you can detect these ultrasonic frequencies with headphones through your ear (as opposed to the skin or eyes as the above paper suggests) is a different story. Something like the Sony MDR-Z7 advertises that it can produce signals up to 100 kHz.

As this AES paper suggests, playback of ultrasonic frequency content may actually be detrimental for the sound quality:
http://www.extra.research.philips.com/hera/people/aarts/RMA_papers/aar07pu4.pdf

I tend to take AES papers with a grain of salt though since they're not true peer-reviewed publications I believe.

I don't believe typical headphone DACs and amplifiers allow ultrasonic content into the headphone output anyway, so I don't think this device will really affect anything, as Jude found out in the video.

THANKYOU for this. Was not expecting the tech to even be down in their more comsumer looking items. "Yuppie Black" is now a colour

I was going to send an e-mail to In2uit asking about that hybrid technology actually. Having an electrostatic diaphragm without the need of a special electrostatic amplifier to provide the proper voltage bias doesn't sound right to me based on my knowledge of e-stats.
It sounds to me like it's more of an electret diaphragm, which is like an e-stat, but with a permanent charge on it to avoid needing the special amplifier.

It's a Vorzuge Duo and unfortunately there are huge sonic variances from Duo to Duo. This is my 3rd Duo and the best sounding one so far after trying out about 25 units(which all sounded different).

Ah, thanks. It matches the Terra well. That variation problem is a no-go zone though - unless you can listen to 25 units. :)
