Hi. My phone had an accident so I'm getting a new one. But the headphone jack on it was already dying and considering how quickly I tend to wear those out, I figured this might be a good time to rethink my strategy.
Here's the options I see:
a) Switching to some Bluetooth headphones
- I'm willing to part with about 200€ for them.
- I normally use a pair of Grado SR60 outside, which I like a lot. I listen to all sorts, but do have a soft spot for old electronica.
- Definitely want them on-ear and definitely open-back so I don't get hit by cars.
- Should have a battery life of 15h or so at least, and a clear indicator of it.
- Question: Does streaming via Bluetooth use up much more of the phone's battery than wired headphones?
b) Buying a portable headphone amp/dac
- I haven't had much trouble with microUSB so if the headphone jacks are built any sturdier than on smartphones, this would help me while also improving the sound. Are they, though?
- It seems kinda annoying to carry around, no?
c) Getting a phone with USB-C and a bag of dongles
- As I understand, USB-C carries analog just fine so the dongles are simple stuff. Basically cheaply replaceable audio jacks. Just what I need.
- Any pitfalls I should watch out for?
