Originally I thought the E500's sounded pretty good with my 5G iPod and Hornet. I listen to a lot of rock and hard rock (with some ambient and jazz/blues thrown in).

I find the E500's extremely comfortable with my tri-flange tips and great for the gym, but I want to try something that sounds better. More open, better soundstage, clearer, better separation of instruments?

p.s.
tight and deep bass is important

In terms of universal fit IEM's, the only one that seems to have gotten better reviews than the e500's is the triple-fi 10 pro, but then as ozz suggests, there is always the customs route, and the UE10pro is as good a place to start as any.

I just looked at the triple-fi 10 and it is not available yet. Who has heard it?

There are threads comparing the two. I had TFP for a while but ended up with E530. The TFP fit is terrible for many people. Too damn big to stick out of your ears and stay put. The sound comparisons are pepsi and coke..7 up and sprite. They sound slightly different from one another but they are equivalents. I suspect you'd get tired with TFP after a couple months as well.

Westone 3 FTW! Sounds more like a fulle sized can than any IEM I've heard.

Where did you hear it?

Their website says they are "coming soon." When will they be available?

I heard them at the international meet a couple months ago. They've had some delays but I'd expect them to be shipping sometime in the next couple months if I had to guess. I liked them better than my customs so they will be worth the wait IMO.

I did not get a chance to hear the UE's so I can not compare but I have never cared for the way the UE universals fit. They kindo of stick out and do not isolate as well IMO based on my experience w/ the 5pros.

the triple.fi is close to the e500 but with better soundstage and better highs, a bit "cleaner", probably what you want. consering the size, I'v never had any problem with that (!?) dont like the fit of the eu-fitkit either, but all you have to do is stick a pair of shure's new blackfoamies to them!. isolate as good as e500/e4 ex., and extend the bass some.. also fits veeeery nice, and holds forever. !

go for triple. wont dissapoint you (when they are avaible,!, should be soon?)

How do you know all this if you don't have them?
