Well, I think my UD is dead.  Can't get a bloody sound out of it, which is annoying because it was working this annoying.  It has been a privilege little dac, I'll miss ya.  Have to use my X5 as a dac until I figure out my next one.

Also is this different chip set than the Fiio K1? I didn't like the sound on the K1 but this ud120 has a lot of great reviews.

It is a different chip. Also this is only a dac while the K1 is an amp and dac combo.

true, one is 5102 and the other is 5102a. Yeah, K1 sounds to mathematical for me. Im still highly considering the ud120 if it works well with iPhone

TI might like to play with words and invent something out of nothing - but if you look at the datasheet, PCM5102 and PCM5102A are essentially the same chip. It isn't the chip that is different but how it is implemented.

Do you think that means that I will also be unhappy with the ud120 then?

Consider UD120 is no longer being sold for quite awhile now and it is only meant to be used with an amp, the question is not whether you will be happy with it or not but why (and how) are you still want to get one.

Found one on the for sale forums. I'm looking for a DAC to use with my schiit mangi.

I'll say UD120 treble is bit smoother than K5, with a slightly richer body and a slightly wider soundstage, but otherwise it isn't anything night and day between them.

So it's got all the things I missed when listening to the k1. Sold.
