Summer is nearly over in the UK, which means that we'll be heading straight into the autumn storms then the winter chill. So, I'm starting to look early this time for cans which keep my ears toasty.

Requirements:
- Circumaural
- Not stifling, but keeps the wind outside and heat in.
- Closed & mildly isolating.
- Does not make me look like a total nerd
- Able to take a bit of rain. Not a deluge obviously, but a few spots.
- Portable. Doesn't have to be pocketable, but throwable into a bag. Foldable a plus, but pack-flat and compact nonfolding phones welcome too.
- Neck wearable when not in use.
- Ability to run with them on... not to jog, but 'panic run' for trains, etc. Rules out headphones with the HD280-derived headbands because after a while they have a tendency to slide off the back of the head when running.
- Efficient. Easily driven from portables. Absolutely no less than 100db/mw effective efficiency. Mid-level impedance (~70 ohms) a plus.
- And lastly but not least, sound good.

Budget: To all practical intents and purposes, unlimited.

The best I've found physically so far is the Beyerdynamic DT250-80. Relatively low mass, robust, stable on the head, very comfy, warm without being hot. The only major physical problem was the oversized plug on the headphone end. Sonically? I find it uninspiring and too hard a drive with many portables.

This may be ultimate evil, but I am actually considering the BOSE TRIPORTS. Perhaps not seriously, but the fact that they are circling in the candicates list should ring alarm bells on Head-Fi and prompt many to execute a concerted search on my behalf

What's your choice?

Perhaps the new Sennheiser HD 201. I have them on order but they are yet to arrive from amazon for 25€. Supposedly good sound at the HD 280 level, portable, efficient and not too ugly

For what it's worth, a friend of mine has the Triports and they are very decent headphones, just somewhat overpriced.

Also low profile padding allows wind to whistle through

I suppose I can't really lose either way with the 201. I will have a look at it. Anything else?

Sennheiser HD25-1, not circumaural but fit all your other criteria.
