Beth Hart Leave The Light On
K.D. Lang Hymns of the 49th Parallel
Jamie Cullum [/I]TwentySomething[/I]
I can get enough of Beth Hart's latest album. I can feel the deep well of energy pouring out of her mouth. She gives her all and leaves me breathless. She is not just trying to sell a pop/rock album that will make the BillBoard charts. She is determined to reach into your very being and won't let go until the last note. Her songwriting is a cut above all other pop/rock stars because she ain't trying to be one. Her voice is a bit raspy, raw, and full of life's scars. But, when she reaches for a note, she grabs at you and won't let go. I just wish all other pop/rock musicians cared as deeply about the music as she still does after all these years of scrappin' to get to her latest album.
K.D. Lang's album is mature, thoughtful, and soul stirring with its beauty of her voice and musical style. It's poetic in that it is completely engrossing, striking, and ascends to the level of art. She is at her best with this album. She is also taking her genuine talent and gift of voice into a new direction which I agree is a smart move for her career. This, is the way she should come back into the music scene.
Jamie Cullum's debut album is hip old-style music. This is music that appeals to slightly older folks like me (northeastern city types) who have been waiting for a reason to give a listen to the Cole Porter and his generation of musicians but couldn't get past the age barriers.
All albums were recorded and mixed and engineered the right way. The music just flows through the way it ought to and ain't no stupid ***** got in the way...no way, these three artists are too damned involved (and good) to let someone else mess up their music.
