THAT is my budget for a headphone.

90% classical music.

over ear, closed.

you don't waste words - do you?

well then - here we go:

go to some headphone shops, bring your own music and listen, try, test, compare ...

think twice, no tripple, if you really want to spend this kind of money on a closed over ear ... because price to performance among closed over ear high end headphones is pretty bad really.

I've heard/tested pretty much every closed TOTL-headphone you can buy nowadays and haven't found one yet I would consider worth it's price. Even at half their prices I still feel I overpaid by a fair amount ...

For 1000$ I would buy a used-like-new (open) HD800, the Edition X or something in this area plus some half way decent IEM for what is left. Like this you got pretty much all bases covered ... and lived happily ever after
