Extreme 3D is a feature found on all newer iRiver players. The latest firmwares for CD, HD and SS players feature it. It is a DSP mode that produces wider soundstage and overall biger sound. In practice however the result is not that great. Perhaps with some earbuds, but with big phones it just reduces the midrange and the bass gets boomier.

Well, this can be argued over. PX100 are actually quite similar sonically to PortaPro except for the slightly rolled off treble. The Senns are IMO abit better made than Koss too.

Only in the US. In Europe, the Kosses - if they're even available - can cost up to double that much! (Or put it this way, the Kosses can cost more than double what the Senns cost.) Thus, if I live in Europe, and can get the Koss Porta Pro, I would have to pay nearly $100 - while the Sennheiser PX 100 would cost closer to $25.

In Sweden and geramny Portas go tipically for around 50€ from internet and as much as 70-75€ in some stores. Sennheiser PX100 can be found for about 40-45€ in Sweden and perhaps cheaper in Germany. As Eagle_Driver has pointed out prices do differ. With these prices Porta vs PX100 is no brainer.

according to that german site, the 1 gig model costs 599 euros.. Are they crazy?? That's like $750!!! If that price is correct, they're waay out of line here...

I'd argue with that in regards to the PortaPro because of my opinion of the issue, but it comes down to personal preference in the end and thus is a worthless argument.

I don't get the 1GB or 1.5GB players. They're close enough to the hard drive players in cost that you put down another $100 (or less), and get more than 10 times the space.
