Hi everyone. I'm still new to the world of headphones. Luckily for me, my dad is an audiophile. He gave me a few items to get me started. This is what my system looks like:

I use a Marantz CD-63se as my transport:

I use a MSB Link DAC III:

That goes into an Ampex tubed preamp. My dad gave me this one. After doing some research, It looks like its from the 1960's.

From the preamp, it goes to the MG Head OTL. I just got this last week. I'm currently using telefunken 6BQ5s for the sides and an Sylvania 5751 3-mica gold pins for the middle.

My dad gave me those tubes and he also gave me these. From left to right these are the stock MG Head tube, Telefunken ECC803s, Mullard ECC 83, another Sylvania 5751 and a Telefunken 12AX7 pulled from a Fisher amp. The Telefunken ECC803 is my current favorite. My dad agrees.

I use the HD 600 for my cans. I am currently listening to Bjork, Enya, Pink Floyd, Metallica, Pearl Jam, Eminem, a little Miles Davis and an occassional Thelonious Monk.

Well, I hope you guys enjoy the pics. I just wanted to say hi to all the head-fiers out there. Thanks for reading. Shout out to my dad for giving some of his gear!!!

That's a nice mix of old/new in your system.I bet it sounds great. Two possible upgrade paths would be to add an upsampling card to the MSB and to replace the cable on the Hd600.The Stefan Audioart Equinox cable really likes tube amps and I highly recommend it.

DUH!! I did'nt read your post completely.I see you already have the Cardas for the HD600.

Try using the "headphone" jack instead of the "OTL" and with the switch down (loess negative feedback) If I remember correctly. I had always found the "OTL" too boomy.

Yeah, the OTL has too much bass but I like to compensate by adding a little treble with the preamp. My Cardas cables hasn't arrived yet. I'm still waiting on those. I also ordered a Brick Wall surge protector. Thanks for the info guys.

I really like the looks of that Ampex preamp. Ampex made outrageously expensive and high quality reel-to-reels back about that time. Nice collection of tubes too.

Just got myself a used upsampler. I'm just waiting for it to come in the mail. How would the upsampler change the sound in my system?
