Here you go, the real deal...

... The U.S. Army Blues Jazz Ensemble

... track = "Cochise" - 7:13, 17.3 MB
... rename *.3mp to *.mp3 after download
... 320kbps for your enjoyment...
... download here, ... limited time only, distribute freely...

The file will disappear when bandwidth allowance breaks...

So, whuddayathink?

Happy New Year,

The drummer on that track is great. The trumpeter is no slouch either. Is that a Charlie Barnet song?

thanks a lot!

For some reason I just keep downloading a page load of gobbledeegook text.

Got it.
I'm an idiot.

Awesome tune man thanks.
I was just considering dipping my toes back into the big band sound.
My grandma turned me on to some of her records of the american and english big band scene when I was but a wee little nipper.
Once again thanks.

Anyone know of any great Big Band music that also has great sound? (i.e. not recordings from the 30's.)

Search:

Buddy Rich and the Big Band Machine
Woody Herman
Glenn Miller
Tommy Dorsey
Gene Krupa
Maynard Ferguson
Dizzie Gillespie
Benny Goodman
Artie Shaw
Charlie Mingus
Cab Calloway
Tito Puente

That will give you a start with some of the "super bands". There is a great "battle of the drummers" between Gene Krupa and Buddy Rich which is not to be missed.

Holy crap!
You just gave me a flashback.

Would that be white record with maybe four pictures on the cover of drum kit close ups perhaps a beat up kick drum or some such?
I seem to remember stumbling on that record in my step father's collection back in the mid seventies as a kid. I haven't heard it since, but I remember being blown away at the time.

Unless of course I am simply experiencing a flash back and have no idea of what I speak in which case we shall return to our regularly scheduled programming.....

I'm afraid Buddy Rich is way too angry for my taste. I like big band music that's fun. (That lets out Stan Kenton too...)

Music is a reflection of its time. "Recreations" after the fact always sound like pickled oatmeal to me. It's still there, but all the guts are taken out. The best big band music was made in the 30s and early 40s... Cab Calloway, Duke Ellington, Artie Shaw, the Dorseys, etc. If you absolutely have to have modern sound (which means missing out on a LOT) you should try the late 50s "dad music" records like Billy May, Jackie Gleason, Hugo Winterhalter and Les Baxter. Most of it is more cinematic than swinging, but the arrangements are great.

Bite the bullet and start listening to mono. It's the music that matters, not the microphone.

See ya

To the best of my recollection, yes it was. See: Image: Krupa & Rich: Various Artists I'm trying to score another copy.

What color was your flashback?

But rockin big band music was exactly what I was looking for! 'Angry' is fun for me.

And I do listen to old mono Glen Miller, Benny Goodman, etc. It's great! I just also wanted to try something with great stereo sound. Preferrable something with some emotion, feeling, and fun and not just light, standard, Big Band sound which most of them are. Know of any modern recordings playing Benny Goodman with good sound and also excitement?
