Man, I get to play with DAPs, cables, amps and headphones. Plus I've just begun. I'm not sure how this can be any more fun, but seems each week I discover something new. Oh sure, I know I'm new to this but I get to play with the equipment and listen to great music besides. Pretty nice.

Earlier this week I was trying to listen to some Rush. My amp needs a minor adjustement so it's off in the mail for service. I went through everything except the KSC-75s and PK3s. Tried the Yuins and they were the sound I was looking for. An "aha" moment. OK, now I know I can change my sound just by changing head phones. I'd already figured out the amp can play a factor as well.

Just tonight I received my last pr of hp. OK, I think that now but know it's not true. New pr of K-501s. Listening to Caedman's call and of course I'm hearing things I haven't heard in the music before. Then I get to add the amp when it comes back for a whole new experience again.

Maybe that's the draw. Every listening experience can be new and different if I choose. I have always enjoyed listening to music. How sad that I've missed so much music. How blessed I am to be able to hear the music for the first time again.

Some of you have forgotten this is fun. Some of you have the Cheshire Cat grin cuz you get it. All of us are fortunate to participate in this great hobby. I hope you can share in my happiness.

It's pretty amazing how very different those recordings of my youth and formitive musical memory can sound (sometimes for the worse, of course), over high resoulution audio gear... Always an enveloping peak musical learning experience, as well as pleasent entertainment and distraction from the mundane and / or even pain too...

A great many splendid things, this hobby of ours...

Thanx, for sharring and the reminder too! Sometimes you just need to tell someone who understands. And now you know, I know too...

Actually I'm coming from home audio to portable audio. It's alot easier to swap out amps, headphones and sources in a portable setup than in home audio...and it seems to take less storage space and cost less. Ahhh, but each to their own

.

Thought I was done with start up purchases, but after corresponding w/Ray Samuels it appears I'll need a head amp to full enjoy my K-501s. I'll give it a listen w/the TH when it comes back and then decide. Amazing how the need seems so real so quickly.

So today at lunch is KSC-75s listening to Casting Crowns. Words are the same but seems like a whole new flavor compared to first two hours on the K-501s. I say again, this incredibly outrageously fun!

I 2 have found an appreciation for sound that I missed. I have always (since the 70's) loved music but with raising family and such lost the time to really sit and appreciate the crispness of a cymbal or depth of soundstage. I was normally a speaker fan having had some decent equipment but having to rid myself of it with a relocation. I am now older and kidless since they have now left the nest and have more money that I did not relize what was spent on the day to day expense of raising said kids.....cool! I have always been a technology fan am absolutly amazed what is now avaliable. Sadly I have not found anyone in my town that shares my enthusiasim for sound or even music for what it's worth. I was never one for "mainstream top 40" type music anyway so I just enjoy what I like by myself...f em anyway! As I type this I am listening to Kate Bush Never For Never with my GoVibe5 and my Yuin PK3...not an esoteric rig but I love it!

I agree, it is totally fun. esspecially when you aren't getting the sound you are looking for and you find a part of your system that changes it to give you that sound. and you just float away in the glorious beauty of it.

But don't you guys ever feel weird calling it a hobby? i mean, isn't a hobby more about making something, then just buying a bunch of stuff? I don't mean to be critical, I love my setup. I just get a funny feeling calling what I personally have gone through here a hobby. Some, sure- the DIY'ers, the builders, guys like Larry at Headphile. yeah, that's a hobby. but me, i feel more like a consumer with regard to headphone gear.

Hobby: An auxiliary activity of discovery that passes the time interestingly... Depends how intently one persues the art of music and its reproduction, and derrives personal experiences of value in these endevors. The upgrade of gear and those choices, even if done in terms of retail are better achieved with the application of knowledge derived from personal experience and research of others experiences here often interactively.

P.S. in addition: Affecting a change in the musics presentation(as you point out), here by actively rotating my various instuments('phones), delicate and nuanced changes are highlighed increasing the fun of discovery, not at all only for better or worse or best but quite explicitly, newly found nuanced rediscovery. As well then, branching out in discovery of generes heretofore gone underappreciated, certainly more convient, less costly and most often times in higher resolution than attending a live event; More importantly historically revisiting performances from the past as though a time traveler...Certainly a multifaceted and fun hobby, IMO&E

Most definately, its a multifaceted hobby and fun! IMO&E...
