Sad times for Sumo fans. Musashimaru had to drop out after a bunch of losses; his wrist still isn't healed. All the Ozeki are in it, but none is dominant and the other Yokozuna, Asashoryu has already dropped two matches!

Is that even on TV here? Maybe ESPN4?

I've seen some Sumo on ESPN2, but it's not reported on most stateside media.

I've always liked Kaio also along with the other Hawaiians (re: Samoans). He was 5-1 going into today but he dropped another one and is 5-2. Another bull is Musoyama. He was also 5-1 and won one today, the 7th day. Yokozuna Asashoryu won his match, going to 5-2 and definitely still in this thing.

I have not been watching, which is kind of sad considering all I have to do is flip on the TV between four and six, but I am not too upset about Musashimaru....I have actually always liked the Takanohana clan and the mongolian wrestlers...Anyway, I saw it for a minute today, but I was on my way out of an onsen, so I didn't really have time to stop. We went to Furano from Sapporo, and it is almost a three hour drive, so it took a long time to get back. But, from what I have heard, this basho indeed sucks.

Actually watched a few bouts today.

Asashoryu was beaten again (5-4), fans throwing pillows into the Dohyo. His opponent left spitting blood though, looked like an inadvertent head butt.

Interesting bout between Takamisakari and Ozeki Chiyotaikai. Anyway, it was a close call, so the judges all stood and had their conference in the ring/Dohyo and gave it to Takamisakari. During the slo-mo replay it was clear that Chiyotaikai touched the ground first, so it was a good call. This is one of the few judge calls that I've seen where they did not just re-fight the match.

HA! Yeah, that's good too. Especially up here...Sapporo is famous for its ramen, beer and chankonabe, which is just what a growing boy needs to reach 300 lbs.

Almost made it to Sapporo once. We were right off the coast after a two day transit and the port authority would not let us get the berth we needed so we sat there for a few hours then eventually headed back home.

Man we were this close to seeing the ice festival too. Read up about those beer tours and their famous ramen.

Well I am here in Nagoya. Too bad I will miss Musashimaru and Asashoryu , but making a Basho has been on my to-do list since forever (been here since 92, and also 82-84 and 88-90). Trying to catch day 14 in the nose bleed seats. Will have my hands full of soveniers tomorrow!

Am thinking that either Kaio (won today, 10-3) or Musoyama (lost, 9-4) will decide this one Sunday. Am also hoping Chiyonofuji will be there as one of the Judges. As my wife always says when I watch Sumo, Obutmo! (Tagalog for fat ass I think).
