Well as we all know christmas is right around the corner, and i am hoping to get some new headphones, i am an owner of some sr-60's and a corda move. I am looking for a set of cans, not iems. They can be anywhere in the range of 250-300 dollars give or take here and there and i would like ones that dont need any modding to be superior. i want ones that wil be awesome right out of the box with a burn in. Un amped i would like them to sound decent also as i might just hook them directly into my ipod.

I listen to music from Jack Johnson to Miles Davis to The Flaming Lips Pink Floyd and all indie ****.

Let me know what you think i should take a peek at and how much success they have had on the market etc...

Thanks in advance guys! I really appreciate the help.

I'm getting Proline750 in Dec. because my birthday is in that month too

750s are not hard on amping but require much burn in time(from what I've read)

400 hours. It's an absolute pain in the butt.

yeah those are a little out of my price range, but burn in time really isnt an issue lol its not that big a deal if i have to burn in for longer on some than others

HD650s or Alessandro MS2is. Depends on what you like. Maybe K701s.

Well, all Grado's besides the SR-60's do cover your ears with bowl pads, but they certainly leak alot of sound. Take a look at the DT-770 Pros; you might end up liking them although they will be quite the departure from your SR-60's.

I did think of the K701 when I saw Jack Johnson and Miles Davis. Then came Pink Floyd. The K701 is IMHO too boring for any vaguely exciting pop/rock music with a punchy bassline. It will sound good, but I would rather bleed my ears to death with a pair of SR325i and feel invigorated afterwards than listen to the rather polite-sounding K701 and fall asleep half way through a track

The DT770/80 Pro is also a great headphone. It has good isolation and solid bass. The HF-1 (if you can find a pair for low $300s) is also a headphone I would look into. They have a bigger, more prominent bass than its higher-end brothers but retains good control and never sounds congested.

Erm I know I'm raving about these at the moment but Sennheiser HD 595. They are more forward than the Sennheiser house sound and are suitable for tonnes of types of music (which is good for indie). Plus your parents will prolly be able to find them easy.

The direction I went from SR-60 was to the DT770. I don't regret it.

But it's a step that'll cost you more money down the road. They sound superior, definitely, but they are a focused sound. They aren't good for all music, and owning them will make you want to get another pair of headphones to complement them, so that you have a pair of headphones perfect for different moods your in and different genres you explore.

I'm asking for the Proline 750 myself. I'm hoping that a PL750, DT990, and SE530 is a killer lineup to suit all of my music in every mood and every situation that I could find myself in, be it traveling, sitting at home, working, etc.
