I honestly don't think so. I have metal version. I didn't do a direct comparison tbh.

Could be my memory is just bad. I do remember the build quality feels good when you touch the top of the player. That's most impressive part of metal to me. And it has like a dusk paint finish.

Oh, also! I'm using thebit Opus #1 metal, in USB DAC mode to try to reliably tell difference to Lame VBR 256 to 16 bit FLAC file from 7digital. Bought 3 of Selena Quintanilla's albums.

I'm still failing some tests, it's also really tiring doing this LOL.

The best I've gotten tbh from her Amor Prohibido album. These tests blown my mind a lot. If I cannot reliably tell difference between 256 Lame VBR to FLAC. I'm very certain I will not be able to gain much by getting Opus #1S.
This DAP might be an endgame for me until it breaks and stops working.

Well, since I have Spotify Premium now I've decided I may want a DAP with that function so I bought a Pioneer XDP-300R, gonna compare them and see if it's worth the price. If so, then my #1 will be up for sale.

Does anyone else's USB DAC mode bug out?
Whenever I exit the mode, I have to restart the player before the mode works again with my laptop

Opus is for portable use. My DAC/Amp is the Audio-GD NFB-28. If you're looking for a very simple, affordable DAC for your PC, try something like the AudioQuest Dragonfly Red.

Some DAPs handle USB DAC function without issue, but I find they just aren't suited to that use. It's far better to get a standalone device, preferably one without a battery or screen, so it will last longer.

And of course my Pioneer XDP-300R Used from B&H arrived DOA and won't charge. Found a Silver version new on Amazon for $100 less. Will be here tomorrow.

Will be interesting to see how the Sabra DAC varies from the Cirrus Logic

The Pioneer/Onkyo were on my list of DAPs when I was looking to buy. The specs on them were very similar to my LG V10, so I decided to try something a little different and went with the Opus #1. Comparing the 2, I would say that the Opus is more neutral, a little drier sounding, and wider sounding. The LG is a bit fuller sounding with a very slight V shape.

I use the LG V20 and in comparison with my Opus#1, the v20 sounds a bit brighter and has more body on the lower end. The v20's amp is also powerful enough to drive and make my AKG K7xx sound good even though it needs a better amp. I agree also that the Opus#1 sounds wider than the v10/20 (I tried both phones and they sound close). Opus#1 sounds balanced overall though some may find it lacking in lower end body but it sounds fine to me. I just compensate by hooking it with my amp like the iBasso PB3 or if not, I choose an IEM with plenty of lower end body.
