Wow, my zishan dsd turned up. It sounds great. I have some very pricy daps and this is not left behind by a large margin at all. Paired it with some kz iems and it all costs less than £150 and sounds great

I'm now planning to bypass the pairs of transistors that are between the socketed op-amp and the 2.5mm TRRS jack. One thing I noticed, is that there's a series 22Ω resistor between each output pin (1 & 7) and the transistors, and 22Ω resistors between the transistors and output jack. My idea is to use a pair of parallel 10Ω resistors in-place of the two 22Ω resistors near the jack - with wires coming from pins 1 & 7 of the socket. If it's true that the socketed op-amp doesn't have a problem with DC offset, then the series capacitors can be removed - but if not, the wires can go to the input side of the capacitors, keeping them in the circuit.

Well, I finally got my hands on the ak4495 versionIMG_20191207_185341.jpg IMG_20191207_185219.jpg

And I can say, it works better then the other versions, and seems more powerful with buds and iems, works really well with b.a. Iems, and the eq works better, too bad they quit selling it. does any one know what the right pot for a replacement?

How did you remove the old pot? It's glued in, I don't want to cut the bored but the glue seems tough........

My Zishan DSD Pro has a terrible channel imbalance. It is less noticeable in SE mode but I can tell that the right channel is stronger as vocals are pulled a bit to the right. When I switch to balance the problem becomes much more noticeable It almost sounds like all the sound is on the right but if I take off the headphones and put my ear to each cup separately I can hear sound in the left side but very quietly. Also when no music is playing the left side hisses.

Does anyone know what could cause this and if there is an easy fix? I can contact the seller but I don't know if he can do anything.

I have no idea when this started. I think it was happening for awhile before I realized because it is not as noticeable SE and I was mostly using SE.

It looks like any warranty would be voided if we open it. There is a sticker over one of the screws.

What would you guys do?

Since the Balanced output op-amps drive the 2.5mm TRRS jack, and the input to the Single-Ended op-amp - the problem is likely to be at the 22-Ohm Balanced series resistors, or the 2.5mm TRRS output jack. Due to the effect on the Single-Ended Output, I would suspect the resistors.

Are there any other DSD owners that you know of, in the UK? If it's someone who is planning to modify theirs anyway, maybe you could swap units, at least for them to check / repair the most likely problem areas. If that's it, then they could continue modifying the one that was yours, and you'd have a good stock model.

Can you show me where those resisters are on one of the photos in here? Are you thinking they need to be replaced ? or re soldered?

.... haha you know there is another DSD owner in my house! He is not planning to mod though.

In this photo, the two sets of series resistors are -
.
Balanced - four at the bottom-right (mine have been replaced with stacked 10-Ohm resistors)
.
Single-Ended - two at the top-center (between blue striped cap and green cap) (I haven't replaced these yet)

I wanted to buy a Zishan DSD(AK4497) to use solely as a DAC/AMP with my computer and headphones, will it's current firmware let it work straight out of the box for this task ?
I've read many places about how good the 4497-DAC chip sounds, but just wondering if I the FiiO K5 PRO (AK4493) might be less hassle.
Anyone know is there any other moderately priced DAC/AMP's that use the AK4497 chip ?

Be aware that the DSD, when used as a USB DAC, the performance is limited to 16-Bit / 48-KHz - so it doesn't work as a High Res USB DAC.
But it will play High Res FLAC tracks (at least up to 16-Bit / 192-KHz) from the memory card.
