The Xiaomi Pistons Thread 2.0
May 12, 2015 at 12:56 AM Post #1,126 of 1,243
I bought a set of silver Pistons, they are the 2.1 version.
I bought these for 22AUD through a friend. Price vs Performance, insanely inappropriate. I have no problem with the fit with the default tips.
The bass on these is wow... it reminds me of the Klipsch Image Ones.
Clarity is awesome though slightly veiled. The vocals remind me a bit of the Apple Dual Driver IEMs, slightly veiled and a bit distant.
Micro phonics is a bit of a problem though.
Too happy with these.

FLAC, Apple Lossless, 320mp3, 256AAC through Walkman Z/A15 and iPod Touch 4G.

Have you guys read this article? Wired say this 15 bucks headphones are worth 10 times more as well http://www.wired.com/2015/06/mrice-e300/?mbid=social_fb

How do they compare to the Pistons?

Pretty sure this has been mentioned a few times on the Chinese Brand thread -- you might want to ask there.

I've ordered them and can compare. But i'm not so virtuoso in explaining sonic properties of IEMs.

First, just want to say thank you to all the early adopters who waded through the various sellers and various versions to give us latecomers an easy path to purchasing these headphones

Second, WOW. I got a pair from ibuygou when they were on sale for $16 on a whim and they have exceeded any expectation I had. They're basically a modern version of my old Sennheiser CX 500 in terms of sound quality and even better in some spots.

Third, paired with the Comply Sx-500, this is basically the best workout headphone setup you can get. (Here's my pair fitted http://i.imgur.com/dm8SwUJ.jpg) Fun, booming sound, lightweight, and comfortable with the Comply tips.

I would definitely recommend the 500 series vs. the 400 series Comply tips. Although the 400 are supposed to be bigger (which isn't intuitive at all), the 500 does have a more forgiving/stretchier core which made putting the tips on the Pistons way easier than the 400s.

You found an amazon marketplace seller offering suspicious products? OMG!!!!! Maybe call the NSA.

You've mentioned that the plastic piston has the same sound as metal. I'll take your word for it.

Is this Piston from Tinydeals recommended?
Original Xiaomi Piston 1 Generation 3.5mm In-ear Stereo Hand-free Earphone with Mic EEP-353458
It's only around $7.

Is this the same as Piston Basic? Is the fit of the plastic same as Generation 2 gold or silver?
Thanks!

Maybe it was said a lot very early in the thread, but one of the most safe places to buy these is merimobiles (non affiliated), I got a couple  from there, everything is where it should be and the quality of the IEM is very good. Got mine 6 months ago for around $15 USD/ea, they also carry the lower end models and other stuff from xiamomi, free shipping took close to a month from China to Colombia.

Sometimes they are a bit uncomfortable the most I've had them on is for about 4 hours when properly set, I have no complains about the sound, it's very good for the pricepoint and then you add the design and you get a big deal.

Just decided to sit down and plug the good ol' Pistons into my Audio-gd NFB15 after not touching the Pistons for a looong time. Man! How do these really cost that little? Just the look and feel of them is just mind boggling! And that sound! I just miss that sound! It's not perfect but the Pistons have this quality to them, almost unique in it's own right. The treble peaky and rolled off, giving it that metallic tinge just makes percussions pop. And that bass just makes bass guitar and cellos rumble without muddying anything up is just great!
