Hey guys, why doesn't anyone talk about the "Bang & Olufsen - BeoSound 2"?
It's clearly the best MP3 player on the planet now in terms of simplicity, durability and most importantly sound quality.

I've used it a couple of times because my friend has one.

I am not about to write a review here but so far I have simply not come across any MP3 players that can beat the sound quality of this player.

The player is rather simple, you can't open it up. It only has an SD(secure digital) slot which holds the 128MB memory card included. And of coz it has an earphone jack. The Li-ion batter is built in so you can't take it out.
The other thing you'll find is a simple interface for charging the battery and transferring songs to/from the PC.

Only 5 buttons needed
On the front of the unit you'll find just a few buttons.
The middle button = play/stop
The Top and bottom button = volume +/-
The other 4 buttons in the middle are for switching between songs.

What's it doing?:
With no LCD/LED or indicator of any kind, you gotta listen to the earphones to know what song is being played and what's going on with the player.
There are no treble/bass controls as well.

Simplicity makes it great:
The simplicity of this unit makes it extreemly drop/shock proof and EXPENSIVE! It cost almost double the 15Gb iPod over in my country.

On to the sound:
When you 1st plug in it's earphones and listen, you'll be amazed. I must admit I don't have the ears of an audiophile but what I know is, I've never heard any portable audio device sound so nice in my life. Whenever my friend lets me listen to it, I could sit there indulged in the wonderful sound this thing produces and the only worry I have is how much longer I could enjoy it before giving it back to her. You audiophiles should check it out at a local B&O shop to hear what I mean. It does come with a pair of exotic earphones which has a cool metal piece that goes behind your ear and the earphones attached by smooth metal hinges to it.

When you listen to this player through it's special earphones, you almost mute out the world around you, the sound of people talking nearby you are silenced. However the earphone still allows you to pick up some sound if it was loud enough above the normal environment noise level. The sound coming from the earphones drains you into a world of it's own

Having said all that:
I wouldn't want to take any credit away from the other great players that are out the in the Market. Each of the high end ones have their own advantage. The iPod for example has huge storage space, great looks, great interface and superb quality sound.

What I'm just trying to say here is that, put everything aside and compare sound quality alone, I still love the Beosound 2 the most

It's clearly the best MP3 player on the planet now in terms of sound quality? Just curious what else you've tested it against? Not picking, just curious how good it really is as B&O's get picked on often.

uh... i don't think he knows much about mp3 players. the BeoSound is overpriced, outdated, and under-featured. Shiney Mp3 players are a dime a dozen, and the BeoSound doesn't even have an LCD?? Gimme a break. All marketing, no substance.

If ya like it, great, but for the less that $200 you can a 256mb player with radio, LCD, ID3 tag display, voice and mic recording, runs on standard batteries, and small enough to wear on your neck or keychain, etc etc

amazon.com, iriveramerica.com, jandr.com, etc

Yeah players with LCD are fragile. The Beosound is the art of simplicity that's why it's so expensive

. It's so simple to use any kid could operate it and you don't have to know how to set anything.

You wanna know what the substance is? The design of the unit, the earphones and the sound quality. I did stress on the sound being the strongest point here. If you want to compare other aspects it will loose to other players no doubt. But for me, at the end of the day the sound quality matters most... not LCD screens or large hard disks.. etc.etc.

Of coz I also love the beosound because i can throw it at anyone and kill them w/o getting the unit damaged

and if I ever drop it I wouldn't have to worry too. It's designed to take rough rough rough use.

Well i've tested it against the latest iPod, Creative Nomad Jukebox and even my own Sony Discman, friend's Minidisc.

I believe the Beosound sounds good coz of it's output and earphones. Also coz it's a European product as opposed to Japanese which only pack their products with features and all the bells and whistles.

Oh, so you tested it with the stock earbuds?

The sound quality on the Beosound may sound better than the Ipod using stock headphones for both, but that really means nothing around here. Buy a good pair of headphones and then compare them.

cyclonite, I think something's amiss in your review. You've used only the stock earbuds that came with each of the players that you've tested - and only the originally bundled ones, at that. That's no way to test the sound quality of any portable player! Your review only tells us how sucky the stock headphones from the other players sounded. As a result, it's the phones, not the players themselves, that are limiting the sound from each of the players that you've heard. So, to check the validity of your results, you should re-test the B & O BeoSound and other players with the earbuds bundled with your Sony Discman (*coughE805cough*), and then tell us whether or not the BeoSound still sounds “better” than the other players.

Better yet, in order to make this comparative review meaningful, you should test every single player with the exact same single pair of (preferably) upgraded, higher-priced, non-earbud headphones (canal phones such as Etymotics are not earbuds, in my book).

That review of yours is the VERY reason why I don’t test portable players with their originally bundled headphones at all, but instead test portable players with an upgraded, full-sized, highly efficient pair of headphones, such as the Sony MDR-7506 and the Sennheiser HD 280 Pro. And then I double-checked the performance capability of each player with a good, open-air set of cans, such as the Grado SR-60 and (with a Total Airhead amp) the Sennheiser HD 600.

Having said what I had said about stock headphones or earbuds, I think the ones bundled with my Sony MZ-E10 MD player - the MDR-E838SP - sounded pretty good, as stock phones go.

Before you write any review or make any judgement, read through some other good reviews, make sure you have some serious equipements, and most importantly, make sure you have good ears which used to good sound from good system. Otherwise, all you put here are just your own opinion and ads like words.

Simple rule, don't put words like "best", especially "wold's best...".

Jonny Quest:

Yeah I tested them with the stock earphones. My friend tested the earphones with another player and the sound didn't really impress him so probably it's the Beosound's output that's great.

And nope i'm not trying to promote/advertise for them.

The best brands in any product seldom need/do advertisement.

As to reply the rest of you, I told you i'm not an audiophile so I wouldn't be able to tell the differences that well even if i'd tested different players with different earphones. All i'm saying is that i've never come across a better combination than the beosound+stock earphones.
