Maybe too soon to ask? When will we have another DAP list Survey?Next I'd like to bring folks' attention to the list of DAPs and how they placed in our survey. Unlike with IEMs this is the first time I've inlcuded a question on sources (thanks for the suggestion @bigbeans ) so there's no data from last year to compare to. Suffice to say the Cayin N30LE came out of the gate screaming. At 50 points and 17 more than it's closest competitor I don't think any single piece of gear, not even the Bird, has ever dominated one of our polls like the N30LE has here. It's surely weaved a potent spell on just about everyone who's gotten their hands on one.
The RS8 is was the next favorite, and owning one myself I understand why.
Below that was a mix of favorites, none of which surprised me very much. I gotta say it's impressive to see the WM1Z holding up so well given how old it is. In fact all of Sony Signature stuff from years ago still seems very relevant. Having just fallen under the spell of the 1Z myself I totally get it-- that is surely a device for the ages. I don't think there will be any Android based devices that hold on to their relevance and usabilityu for that length of time.
On the topic of retaining relevance a nod surely must be given to the Lotoo Paw Gold Touch as well as the L&P stuff, all of which has been around for a while an continues to be relevant.
Bringing up the budget end of things are the AKSR35 and Hiby R6 Pro 2. I've never heard the Hiby but the AK is one of my favorite players that continues to astound me with the level of sound quality it puts out from such a small package.
Thanks again to everyone who took the time to vote.

It's beginning to feel like Watercooler 2024 poll should be here soon!Maybe too soon to ask? When will we have another DAP list Survey?![]()
NOOOOOO! Too much
Make sure they've got burn in, first. At least 50 hours.Great review !
Interestingly I have received mine just yesterday and I'm a bit puzzled for the time being.
For 90% of my albums, the result is superb, they sound great, totl level no doubt, very reference tuning, but that's how I like things usually (mainly driver is u12T, with r8ii, and I use Genelec on my desktop setup).
But somehow on some tracks I have a very hard time enjoying the Omniums. That's the case on poorly recorded tracks, or, on albums that I know by heart. Take Aja from Steely Dan, or Hotel California from the Eagles, and I find the result too thin and not enough bass driven for my liking.
Anyway, will spend the whole weekend with them and see if they go on sale or if I keep them a bit more.
Make sure they've got burn in, first. At least 50 hours.
Also, try either ET Baroque or Divinus Velvet (thinking the regulars) tips with them pushed far down the nozzle and get those nozzles deeply lodged in your ears. With that, I got great performance!
The mids are really their focus rightA quick shoutout here to a very rarely mentioned but truly special sets: NGAudio Khaos.
The name of the game for these bad boys is MIDS, with a particular emphasis on vocals (with a bias towards female vocals). It is a TOTL set all around but the emotional resonance of this set is something really, really special. I'm not entirely sure what's going on with the tuning. Really addictive set.

Does it have a 4.4mm connection? Are you putting this out on tour like the Watercooler tours?![]()

Hi everyone!
I want to share a side-project that is in its near-final stage that will be present at Canjam Dallas thanks to my good friend @aaf evo who very generously agreed to carry with.
It's a portable DAC/AMP named Ari; hand-made in the French-speaking whereabouts of Canada, ha. This project is 2+ years in the making from a passionate engineer (Jonathan) & impressed me so much I decided to get involved about 5 months ago. Due to unforeseen quality issues with the batch of DAC chips that was received, the units will only have functional amp section, but this will allow for assessing its amp stage which is where most of the secret sauce lies in. The entire DAC+AMP package as a one-and-done is the best showcase, which will be toured after Canjam Dallas.
Ari uses a topology (optoelectronics) that has not been used in portable audio and thus creating a very unique flavor profile. It's an SS that tends to the warmer and more euphonic side with a lot of emotion. If you're a vocal lover and love snappy but bold macrodynamics and richer harmonic contour this will be up your alley!
What does it sound like out there in the audio world?
I would compare it to the voicing of Accuphase or McIntosh (Solid State) amps in the 2Channel world - that is to say full Class A with a rich sense of PRAT and analog top end. It maintains the technical ability of SS with a sense of glow from tubes (I know, how cliché, but you can listen for yourself).
We've found it to sound incredible with Macbeth, LCD5, HE1000SE, LCD-R, Annihilator 2023, RN6, Z1R, MoonRover & a few other IEM's we've personally benchmarked with.
Please note: There is no built-in battery - this serves for product relevancy for the long-term and it never going obsolete. The quirk with this is that power must come from a USB source whether it be a USB outlet, a PC/ Tablet or a portable battery for mobility. This is a transportable solution initially designed for Over-Ear headphones, but that drives IEM's with aplomb as well. AMP & DAC power section is entirely separated à la DX320MAX for optimal fidelity with the added benefits of no parasitic artifacts typically heard from a battery.

I hope whoever takes the opportunity to listen enjoys their experience & would be most thankful to receive your DM's and/or any form of impressions - Good or Bad!
