@lolhero the Hugo 2 and Fei Wan to me sounds clean, I have my Hugo 2 set to the warm filter (although to my ears I can hear no discernible difference between any of them) and overall I am enjoying it. I no longer have any DAPs or anything to compare to however, I would very much like to hear these with a Cayin as historically I have always leaned towards their house sound over (for example) A&K.

A module change might help. 🙂
Well no, this is really a matter of tuning : not my cup of tea. Too warm and colored.

The KR5 for exemple were far way "ok" for me (well... a good big real "V" but : ok :stuck_out_tongue_winking_eye: ).

Hong Kong's AVShow open today. I hope that we will be able to read some Listening report, including Brise Audio's ultimate IEM System: the FUGAKU...

I actually wonder how FW sounds with SP3000, I think that should be a cool combo. From my memory it was very nice with Anni23 but little underpowered due to Anni drive needs, should be great for FW.

I recently got the L&P E7 Exclusive Edition (coming from the SP3K) and thought I'd post some quick impressions --

This is my first experience with an L&P DAP. Relative to the SP3K, I hear incremental stage width and holography; greater note weight; and an incremental sense of realism in vocals (and vocals seem to stand out a little more in a mix). Vocals are really fantastic on the E7.

It's been said that the SP3K has more "digital glare" in comparison -- I can sort of hear that, though perhaps I'd characterize it more in terms of more note weight for the E7 vs. a slightly more delicate, slightly thinner, slightly airier presentation for the SP3k. The E7's note weight just makes things seem a little more tangible, a little more harder-hitting, a little more of that sense that you can reach out and touch the notes. Transients are just a tad more incisive. A little closer to the feeling that a desktop setup might provide. Detail/resolution seems in the same general ballpark on both devices. So I wouldn't say I'm hearing more detail per se on the E7, I don't think I'm finding new things in the music that I'd never previously heard. Just that the notes have a little more weight and definition to them.

These differences can be heard even when both DAPs are running through an external amp like the TsuranagiSC (and I'll add that while they both benefit from being amped, the SP3k benefits to a greater extent than the E7). And of course these difference are most apparent when A/Bing. The SP3k still sounds great on its own; it's not like my ears are now offended by it, by any stretch of the imagination. Diminishing returns at this level of the hobby, etc. etc. We're talking about maybe a 10% improvement and not a 30% improvement. But the E7 is a definite improvement.

As for the E7's UI, it's better than feared. I'm enjoying the novelty of the very quick startup time, and jumping from track to track is pretty quick. It's pretty fast at re-indexing when I add new tracks to the SD Card. LDAC sound quality is great-- which makes streaming to it with an android phone or other DAP, in order to access streaming services, a very viable approach. Really, my only complaint is that it plays album tracks in alphabetical order rather than track order.

Time will tell whether I can live with the tradeoff of better sound quality from the E7 vs. integrated streaming with the SP3K. But so far, during my first couple of days of ownership, I've been super impressed by this little device.

FW is very sensitive, so yes, it's an excellent IEM for the SP3000 (while the Anni23 clearly isn't).

Whoaaaaa, just got an UPS shipping notification for my Apx SE :)

Hmmm, UPS looking a bit too optimistic I guess. They picked it up at 14:50 in Poland and they think they're going to deliver it today in Switzerland??

If you go to folder in the E7 and look up the album and play from there the order will be correct, so for albums that order matters a lot you can still hear them ordered correctly.

With you though wish they would fix that in FW update someday, meanwhile it does not really bother me much. Note that if you are random track playing that has no impact.

What I like;

1) Sound almost as much as P6Pro maybe just as much though in a different way. The P6P is more analog sounding to me and as you say the E7 more desktop.

2) Form factor just perfect Goldilocks size and weight, top pocket friendly. The E7 does not have a touch the screen to turn it on which for top pocket use is not what I want as that leads to unwanted behavior. The E7 has a volume control on the top which is easy to access and far enough away from the jack as to be easy to change while walking around. The track control buttons are easily pressed while the player is in my pocket. All that adds up to perfectly engineered for that use case.

3) For L&P the UI is very useable, though honestly I do not use it much, since I am listening to music and either in bed trying to wind down or the aforementioned top pocket walk about.

4) The light blue color of the case mine came with has grown on me, at first I was like what why not black?

5) Start up time, actually I wish it was 1 second instead of 5.

Why not add a little fun with a new sketch this one the inner cover of a new sketchbook I finished making, I have been making books for at least 30 years, and then filling them with ideas. Hope this image brings some joy today, I did have fun painting it, oh how much I love color.

Good people of the Watercooler, it's been a while!

Sir Tom Jones
and one of his possibly lesser known but marvelous songs, Without Love.

I invite you to grab your IEMs of choice and have a listen. Any likes, comments, and subscriptions are kindly encouraged 😄

@MRT-Man Are you visiting the show this weekend?

drftr
I'm in Canada, so sadly, no! :stuck_out_tongue: (just added my location to my profile, as I realized it was missing). Looking forward to impressions though, seems like a lot of new releases.
