You can try the Tung Sol KT170 in the Aegis too as long as the rectifier and power supply can feed the 1.75A heater current requirements I believe. It’s not that much over the 1.6A requirement for KT88 :)

IIRC there was a post from L0rdGwyn that the KT170 might work only way to find out is to be a guinea pig hehe
I’m hoping someone else eventually starts making KT170 tubes, or that New Sensor Co eventually opens up a factory outside of Russia.
Do they, though? :)

That’s a good looking amp. Any amp that uses good looking tubes instead of the mini noval tubes is good looking IMO.

Thanks!! They really do look like they were made for each other! They really are a beautiful looking and SOUNDING pairing.

If you do get a chance to hear them together, you really should, though they may not be together. The only way I was able to listen to them together was a friend brought his Immanis and we went around to various different amps to try it together.

I still think the WA23 Luna edges the Cayin out in looks, just by a hair (just for me personally), but they both are very handsome looking amps. The Cayin’s looks were certainly a factor in why I wanted it, though.
@Wes S , I will have my Immanis at the Dallas CJ and I'm happy to meet you at Bloom Audio if you want to listen to the pairing. Just shoot me a PM.

Well, ahem, it’s all debatable. Folks just like what they got

Oh for sure. I did say “for me personally.” I wasn’t ever really a huge fan of the WA33 look-wise or sound-wise even before I had the WA23.

I no longer own the WA23, but I still think it’s a better looking amp (again, not by much) versus what I have now.

It certainly is very much preference when it comes to aesthetics and sound, though!

@Wes S Take him up on his offer. He’s an awesome guy to hang with, to boot. And @goldwerger too! I can’t speak highly enough of these guys…

Since we're showing off our tube amps.....

My Airmid OTL, designed and built by Keenan. It's one of six in the world, one of which seems to be lost forever, unfortunately.
I call mine The Yeti, for obvious reasons. It is one of two to have dual mono volume, making finding matched tube pairs, slightly less important.

This amp takes a pair of 6C5s or 6J5s, which are one half of a 6SN7, and for whatever reason sound distinctly better than their 6SN7 counterparts.
In the rear the Yeti can take a pair of 6AS7G, 6080, 5998, 7802, etc...

Based off of sonic characteristics only? Yeah, I’d say so.

Looks-wise, still slightly prefer the WA23.

That remains one of the most incredible OTL amps ever. @L0rdGwyn created something really special with it. I hope he recreates something along those lines in the future… 🙏😉

I had the opposite take out of SoCal, and it’s why I’m the lucky recipient of @Aetherhole ’s old WA23… the world has reshuffled things to a perfect new equilibrium for all of us… 😁

Win-win situation, for sure!

Cayin makes the best looking tube amps hands down.
Beauty is in the eye of the beholder, and is often an acquired taste. 🩵
