I can think of an amp I regret parting with…

:)

It was your greatest offer to me! You should build another one, but I recommend not to gimped out on the caps and go for the best ones on the market :). After it settled down, the caps you installed for me made quite a bump in sonic performance especially with Susvara!

What made it such a tough sell was that this was my first totl headphone purchase, one that I'd bought new, in the exact configuration I wanted, and I'd saved up for ages to buy it. I seldom buy headphones new but I wanted to support Zach and Bevin, and I wanted just the right one.
Thanks for such a great summary. You just encapsulated how I feel about my Caldera Closed (Bocote, and the only CC I’m aware of in that wood).

While mine was not customized for me, it was a lucky find (with Kevin at ZMF’s help at CanJam 🙏), and I cannot foresee letting it go in my lifetime.

To return to the regrets:
  • Is there a piece of gear I regret selling? I actually don’t think so, at least not at this point. Still, I DO have regrets:
  • I regret being slow enough at learning what I liked sonically that I bought one amp (Violectric V200) and one headphone (the Focal Elear) twice. So yes, I guess I regretted selling them. 🤔😁
    • Fortunately I bought them second-hand from good sellers and at exceptionally fair prices, but it was still a misstep. However, I do not regret selling them in the end, as they taught me so much about listening.
  • I regret not *buying once and spending substantially* on tubes- @billerb1 is a wise man.

Some strings and vocals tonight. I admit I haven't listened to a lot of Nick Drake before getting into good audio. His albums are phenomenal.

Nick was a man before his time. One of his songs is on my “funeral playlist” if someone eventually needs it. 😅

Zmf Aeolus. Would I listen to the AC over this? Usually, but there is something about them that is relaxing and endearing.

I sometimes regret selling my Aelus. Has a pretty Ltd set, but mostly they were great for casual listening.

Headphone wise probably the Utopia

I feel that I have never gave them a fair shake with good tube amps. Do u prefer the OG or 2020 version?

That's good to hear; I'll make a note of it. I got to the hear my VO with the Zen Taboo Mk IV and wasn't a fan, finding the treble a bit too forward for my preferences. But the ZMF OTL model might be just the ticket! I might have to try that pairing at the next NYC CanJam - I've already booked the hotel!

My Tanoo (MK II.5) is similarly more aggressive. It’s great with the Caldera (especially with the OTL as pre) but not the right synergy to the high impedance dynamic ones like the VO. It’s really worth demoing that in specific!

The AD2000 is a brilliant headphone. Speedy, slightly dry with magic mods. Very amp picky.

Never came across them. I’ll need to keep an eye out…🤞

One is only a time-sensitive decision - Hifiman Susvara OG. I sold the OG Sus when I had the Susvara Unveiled, but I ended up returning that after I decided to order the Immanis.

I’m genuinely curious whether you’ll determine the Sus OG needs to get back into your stable or not once you’re done.. did me, I have determine that is the case.

After leaving the hobby twice and coming back, I've bought the two cans I regretted selling: Sennheiser "Baby Orpheus and the Audio-Technica "Leatherhead" L3000.

Two headphone that I myself cherish and plan to keep for the very same reasons!

I can think of an amp I regret parting with…

Which?

I don’t understand the question.

Sorry. I’ll rephrase: do you have any headphones that you’ve previously sold but now, in retrospect, wish you’d have kept them?

I believe the answer to that is, yes it likely will find its way back into my stable… eventually. Although, I’m not in any hurry to get it… maybe when it goes down a little bit more in price on the used market.

I think it was a joke--he keeps buying but never manages to get around to the selling part. A condition with which I am all too familiar. :o2smile:

Wrapping up the evening, listening to the Kennerton Vinneta on the Woo WA23 amp. With high impedance setting, there is some special synergy happening.

Listeniong to some blues to wind down. Larry Carlton and Robben Ford, two legendary guitarists, came together to play thoughtfully in this beautifully understated session of "Unplugged". With the Takatsuki tubes I have on loan, and in Luna in high impedance setting, there is some magic going on in the mids and midbass were guitar and bass notes linger in the air exquisitely, just enough to draw me in and get lost in the music. My favorite track is "Cold Gold"...

Man, the more I see a kennerton headphone the more I am wanting one haha! I really find interest in the Rognir dynamic as it's a closed design which I very much enjoy in headphones these days. Just accessing one in the UK is a bit challenging! Need to hit up hifonix if they still have stock.

Some of the best headphones I have heard are closed, like the original sony r10 and a modded focal headphone!
Maybe this post is a sign to get a rognir now.

The Sony MDR-R10 remains, for me, one of the best headphones ever made ❤️

I regretted selling my gorgeous cocobolo Atrium so much that I recently re-acquired the exact same pair. Crazy, right? They’re even better than I remember, maybe being my favourite headphone now that I can pair it with the Aegis. So I’m never selling another headphone! (Until I need to fund another FOMO)

My biggest regret though is selling my silkwood VO. For a time it was definitely up there on my best-of list, being my preference over the likes of Utopia. Such a special sound. But I couldn’t justify owning both a VO and VC, and in the end I chose the VC for practical reasons. And I know, despite the VO being one of my favourites, I’d still make the same choice. The one that got away…

Just curious, per your sig, how did vo compare to hd800S?

I haven't regretted selling gear in the past, but I have regretted selling some music. Most of my library is video game music, with a particular focus on CDs from before 2000. The vast majority of these were only released in Japan with miniscule print runs and no reprints. If they had arranged tracks on them, the complex licensing may make it impossible to ever reprint or release on another platform.

Two CDs that I wish I had kept are the Kirby's Adventure soundtrack and a copy of the Super Mario RPG OSV that was signed by Yoko Shimomura. I haven't seen the former for less than $1,000 in many years, and the latter is generally $500 or more for a standard copy.

This is from memory, so please take this with a nice heaping spoonful of salt.

Different sound, and yet interestingly sounded great for the same genres of music. I really loved VO for classical, easily the best presentation of violin I've heard. In fact that's probably what I miss most about it. VO, like most ZMFs also had a great sense of 3D space, which was great with small ensemble stuff. Though the Senns definitely win out for larger ensemble stuff, giving a better sense of larger halls. And they both work well for speedy, precise genres like progressive rock/metal.

VO has a thicker, warmer, but not necessarily more impactful sound. The warmth and woodiness of the VO is palpable, if you like that kind of thing. I certainly do! The Senns definitely are more neutral overall, less bassy, and have more energy in the upper mids/lower treble - no dip there like the VO have.

And, they are both pretty even in detail and technicalities, that is to say, incredibly underrated and amongst the very best in that area. Just my opinion.

Damn, I better stop waxing poetic about the VO, ZMF November is lurking around the corner! My wallet is not safe!

Hi Friends,

So first of all, let me apologize for bringing in a discussion of a rather humble product into a thread that I imagine is reserved for discussions on high-end audio. I am far more experienced with the Watercooler IEM thread and generally, with more high-end headphones than this one.

That being said, this headphone has really captured my interest so thought I would share.

The headphone in question is the Sivga P2 Pro. It is a planar and although I have bought and experienced Sigva headphones in the past, this one is a bit special. This one is special both for its tonality which is shockingly balanced with deep, well-extended, rumbly bass that hits hard, slams, and all that, enough to satisfy my metal-head cravings (really does), whilst retaining a sweet timbral attention on midrange and treble. I don't necessarily percieve any treble peaks other than the fact that there is enough treble presence to aid a sense of sharpness of percussion instruments; solid resolution for the price; and some extraordinary female vocal performance. Female vocals just pop out of the headphones with a degree of realism I haven't encountered with headphones at this price point and that includes HIFIMANs.

This is a serious headphone, guys, athough I know it competes with seriously technical headphones at around this price tag. But I honestly can't think of any other headphone that marries technicalities with tonality and timbre and even comfort, build quality, and maybe even aesthetics (a wee bit, I do like the red oak) at this price. The grill pattern may be hit or miss for some, but the construction feels really solid.

The last thing to note that this reminds me of a more affordable version of the Focal Clear OG, and yes, I am aware I am comparing a dynamic driver with a planar. This is testimony to the Sigva for being able to craft a planar that has the timbral realism of a dynamic diver. Both the headphones have wonderful subbass extension, handsome pinna gain without sounding piercing, strong female vocal performance, a treble that has life without trespassing on the naturalness of the presentation, and so forth!

Now, I also want to do a shout-out for HIFIMAN's latest midfi DAC Amp, the HIFIMAN EF500. It synergizes well with every headphone I have thrown at it honestly. The sound is rich, alive, bassy, punchy, and somehow natural while sounding neutral. It does pair exceedingly well with the Sivga P2 Pro, as does my favorite OTL, the Feliks Euforia AE.

I do recommend giving the Sigva P2 Pro a listen!
Hi !

I'm really interested in this Sivga P2 Pro.

What about detail resolution, please ?

I'm looking for headphones to pair with my Fiio K11 R2R (which isn't the most analytical and resolving dac imo).
