I almost cannot believe that you can drive Caldera from 1A with good result. When I demoed Caldera and Atrium in CanJam, I immediately noticed that Caldera sounded so consistently when I switched between SS and Tube. For my Atrium, it is very different. I haven't tried my Atrium from 1AM2, I probably will when I find a converter though I doubt it will perform well.
I have Mr. Walkman’s firmware which allows 2x gain. Even so, I have to set volume at 95-105 of 120.

But it sounds excellent, and while it sounds more well-controlled and powerful with my solid-state desktop amp, it’s not night and day. I have been pretty happy with my Atrium Closed as well when driven by the Sony.

If your son wants a step up without going crazy like the Zahl or 465, I found the Questyle CMA Fifteen to have amazing synergy with the HD650 and bring out great hard hitting bass, so I imagine it would be a good match with the HD600 as well.
Good to know. Tks.

Anything under $1K that is great? Tall ask I am sure.

Didn’t try it with the Sennheiser HD series but the Sparkos Gemini is an amazing little tube hybrid amp with a ridiculous number of tweaking options that I thought sounded phenomenal with the ZMF Verite Closed and Auteur, so it’d probably be a great Sennheiser match too.

Well, it's time again to ask again, and it seems like we just did this a minute ago (I guess because SoCal was indeed a minute ago)...

Who is going to CanJam Dallas?

I’ll be there and, as always, would be happy to catch up with fellow WC HE folks! 😊

T-minus 3 weeks! See you there!

Thank you for the rec. Not as inexpensive as the Bottlehead, but looks pretty good.

Another option is the Woo TUBE mini - at least with the HD620S (the combo I got my son) it sounds great.

Feliks Audio Echo MK2 is a great entry level tube amp and it blew me away with my HD600, HD6602 and HD800s.

Jazz lovers...

Listening to Sarama Joy's latest album, "Portrait", which was released earlier today (actually my second end-to-end listen to this album today). What an incredible singer.

Some of you may remember me sharing my impressions from seeing her live in NYC earlier this year. If you ever get to sdo that, I can't recommend that enough. Meantime, I rejoice in each new release. What a generaltional talent.

I never heard it, but that looks like a very good amp. Tks.
The smaller Feliks amps are great for high impedance dynamic headphones like the HD600 series.
There is also an older Feliks model, the Espressivo mkII that is very good. It is a bit more neutral than the Echo mkII, which is more warm/tubey sounding.
