Hi guys - dropping a direct link to Day 2's CanJam impressions. Also linking Day 1 again. Day 2 had a few more headphones. Including probably the biggest disappointments (the new Fostex) along with some budget friendly headphones too (Fiio FT1 and the R70x Refine + Little Gremlin DIY Tube Amp).

Day 1 Impressions
Day 2 Impressions here

@Ace Bee Hey, i am not going anywhere.
Take Your time.
You had Bokeh. Great.
I could listen to the Bokeh as well. Very nice sound, the "problem" for me is , that it has that kind of presentation, distant and I prefere the more close to the head type.Like Denon AH D9200 or Focal Celestee.
Very curious what You are going to hear.

Fun anecdote:
I had a Stockholm work trip immediately following CanJam SoCal and my purchase of a new pair of ZMF headphones, so I was carrying my new Bocote LTD Caldera Closeds with me.

Major plus though: My father (83 y.o.), who lives in Norway (where I grew up), came by train to Stockholm and spent a day and a half with me the weekend after my work meetings. And the first evening we had a ZMF/Sony (WM1A DAP) listening session over sparkling wine in his hotel room!

He’d heard A LOT about my obsession- erm, hobby, but has never had a chance to hear my gear since I’m in the U.S. and he is now too old to travel that far comfortably.

But he loves music, and was almost moved to tears by the Caldera Closeds. Between songs, he exclaimed “I didn’t know headphones could sound like this, and convey the emotion in the music at this level!” After another song, he noted “now I understand why this is a cherished hobby for you.”

Priceless, and well worth carrying a ZMF flight case around. 😁

The rest of our visit together was exceptional as well, but that was a special moment.

Such a wonderful and special moment to have captured. Sharing a passion with someone you love, and seeing the spark in their eyes as they experience it for the first time.. it’s a special thing 🙏

Thanks for sharing. Wonderful picture ❤️

My son decided to purchase the Sennheiser HD600 from amazon during their sale. I think he would like an 800S someday, and read this is similar in sound profile, so he got it to see if he likes that sound.

What a terrific HP. I placed it on my Zahl and 465, and it had good bass and sounded great. I was pretty surprised. So was my son as his little amp did not produce the bass he heard on these amps. It is unbelievable light! I was a bit shocked how good it sounded on the 465 playing Diana Krall and even some classical music.

I still use the HD 800s as my daily and even though I just came from CJ listening to Immanis, Sol-P, Susvara on TOTL chains, the HD800S still surprises me at how good they are (driven from my laptop and Sound blaster X4)

Unfortunately the HD800S also costs a bit more than the HD600! But much less than the Sol P and Sus. Thanks for the info.

I almost cannot believe that you can drive Caldera from 1A with good result. When I demoed Caldera and Atrium in CanJam, I immediately noticed that Caldera sounded so consistently when I switched between SS and Tube. For my Atrium, it is very different. I haven't tried my Atrium from 1AM2, I probably will when I find a converter though I doubt it will perform well.

The Caldara is a 65 ohm planar while the Atrium is a 300 ohm dynamic. I would expect them to perform differently on SS and tube amplifiers.

The CC, at 94mW @ 60Ω, are medium sensitivity. I found them reasonably easy are to drive, perhaps more than their spec suggest, but they do improve - a lot - with great amps.

But I’m kinda curious about this myself; never tried them with me WM1Zm2 (had use case for that) but I might just do that to find out..

If your son wants a step up without going crazy like the Zahl or 465, I found the Questyle CMA Fifteen to have amazing synergy with the HD650 and bring out great hard hitting bass, so I imagine it would be a good match with the HD600 as well.

I want to get my ears on a pair of Jupiter Audio Research modded HD800. The man has a knack for tuning Sennheiser headphones.
They are quite spectacular.
