First headphone listen after a long weekend away. I chose the Tungsten (DS) and Glenn OTL. This combo brings a lushness thats makes for a super fun and smooth listen!

I’m currently listening to Rimsky-Korsakov’s “Scheherazade”, which I find to be one of the most beautiful classical pieces ever composed. Even if you’re not into classical music, or perhaps are looking to open an aperture into it, it’s a great one to start with. It’s also quite famous, making it a very easy listen. The version below that I’m listening to is my favorite recording, but if you can’t find this one (it seems to go on and off streaming) just pick another of the endless recordings available…

The 45rpm 12" of Sheherezade from RCA Living Stereo/Acoustic Sounds is possibly the very best sounding piece of music I own. A brilliant composition, and one of the best recordings ever made. The sound is stunningly live, and I've heard it performed at Carnegie Hall.

I think I'm gonna skip this latest craze. Somehow I don't think Taranis will be as gentle with my headphones as your cats

We were introduced to this music many, many years ago at school as one of those pieces of music that is full of beautiful melodies and helps break down the mental barriers of getting into classical music. The other ones I remember were Peer Gynt and Mars and Jupiter from the Planet Suite. Scheherazade was made very publicly famous by being used as the soundtrack to the original Sinbad film.

hey guys!

need to crowd source some more info.
thinking of rewiring my home theater and wanted to find out what speaker cables you guys are using for your surrounds/rears.

I did mine up a decade ago and am using QED Silver Anniversary XT. any point to switch it up/refresh? am open to suggestions.

as for speakers, I'm looking at the new Focal Aria Evo X range. main criteria is I need the rear speakers to be wall mounted and flat style. at present I'm using lower range Dali Ikon 6 mk2 speakers all round (with dali sub). any suggestions for a decent/upgrade speaker system that has flat looking rears? tbh I'm in a bit of a toss up as the main users will be my kids watching YouTube/Netflix etc, with the occasional movie night to get some decent usage.

I run Canare 4S11 Star Quad 14AWG Speaker Cables to mine.

Hi All. I needed to make some room on my desk to fit a Zahl underneath my MK-465. After pricing out StackZilla at $2,000.00 and not wide enough, and some other stuff that was not to my liking I found the below on Amazon for under $20.00. Very solid and holds up to 88lbs.

The top with is 16” and the depth is 10”. The width between the feet in the bottom is 14 1/8”, and the height underneath is 4 9/16”.

It also stacks. Very happy with it and it does not move. It goes together with 4 screws. I figured I would mention it here should anyone else need a solution like this.

Below are a couple of pics with my 465 both below it and on it. I will keep it on top and eventually my Zahl will go underneath.

A very abnormal "travel" setup:

travel_stax.jpg

Normally, I would never bring my estats out of the house save for meets. I'd take my AWAS or MDR-Z1R when I go on my monthly work trips (in which I drive so I have cargo capacity). But a confluence of unusual circumstances allowed me to bring these along.

1. I normally stay at a co-worker's house during these trips, and this time is no different in that regard, but this time they're going on vacation, so I'll be staying over the weekend to dog-sit.
2. Normally, I'd spend time after work at a nearby audio store, but it just so happens that this week the proprietor is not in town, doing an installation in a different state.
3. A fellow Head-Fier mentioned that he was interested in hearing my newly acquired SRM-727 and comparing it with his 717. Since I plan to do the feedback mod in short order after my work trip, there won't be another easy opportunity to compare the two amps in their stock forms.
4. That Head-Fier put Audeze earpads on his X9000 and has wanted to compare vs a stock X9000 since taking on/off the earpads takes time. I'm also interested in what the pad-rolled X9000 sounds like.
5. I've met this user twice in person at different meets and I know he's in the same general area as my workplace. I said that if he was available this coming weekend, I could bring along my gear.

It was pretty spontaneous on my part, but I think it'll be fun. And in the meantime, I can enjoy the X9000 when I'm not at work.

On a side note, the Vinyl Emulation DSP setting on the Walkman works quite well with this setup. It adds a little bit of bass weight and presence. I should probably try my estats with real vinyl someday, but in the meantime, emulation will have to do. I also enjoy the DSD Remastering option, but that only works with the balanced output and my decision to bring along the gear was so last minute that I didn't have time to order a 4.4mm to XLR interconnect (especially given the US holiday this past Monday). I actually stopped by Best Buy to pick up the 3.5mm to RCA interconnects along the way because I didn't have that interconnect on hand.

Tangentially, the 727 is meant to replace the 353x that I've used for a bit. Since the 727 is superior to my ears even without the mod, I decided to drop off the 353x and one of my older DACs with a friend when I was heading out on the trip. His house is conveniently located along the highway I drive up, and I've loaned him my L700mk2 for the past few months. He has been using my SRM-D10 amp for most of that time - though I let him "safeguard" my main Erco + 006t setup for a few days while I was moving in early July. Since I have no use for the 353x anymore and that DAC hadn't been used since I moved, I let him have the combo to try out and compare vs the D10. No sense having gear sit idle!

Given you’re returning the Armageddon after demo, I’m curious which amp/s you are keeping in your home rack, and what comparatively made them the better fit for you? 🙏

I am not one that likes to be surrounded by amps, as it makes me a bit anxious to have so many high $ value items sitting there unused and a bit stressed in deciding what I want to listen to. Armageddon created a sense of excitement but it does not do well with sensitive iems and I suspect headphones. This is one knock against it, in that it is only good for Immanis as I do not own any other HP. None of my IEMs will ever work with it, where as the 465 and AIC10 has a really good black background.

As for the sound, I found 465 and AIC10 to have more depth and a refined sound that kept me wanting to listen more. AIC10 w/g73r had a laid back presentation (mids & bass) that works so well with slower paced music that you can enjoy the decay of the note like drinking a fine wine (swirl the flavors in your mouth to observe every last bit before consuming) and 465 had an faster paced presentation with tight bass even though the overall sound signature is more warm.

As of this writing, I still own a wa33 elite jps with upgraded tubes that gives a clear and holographic sound that can't be matched with any of these amps. If I sell this amp (currently posted in classifieds), maybe I would consider Armageddon. But I would love to hear back from @Proxima Centauri about an amp that can deal with sensitive HP, provides enough power to immanis, and has that same sound signature to Armageddon. That might tip me over the edge to buy.
