I am looking seriously for a copy of the MFSL version of The Wall and was wondering what you guys think about the MFSL version SQ wise and what not. I don't know if this is against the rule but would it be possible if some owner of the Wall MFSL could rip a sample of The Happiest Days of Our Lives so I could see if this album first hand is better than the original? (If against the rules delete thread)

Thanks,

Dan.

Maybe the owner of both the MFSL and "newer" release could post a comparison from Goldwave.

When it comes to Pink Floyd you can never ask for comparisons without telling us what your "regular" version is. Posting your bar-code numbers are the easiest way to compare.

The MFSL version is adequate, but is not generally held to be the best version. The cheapest, easiest to find and quite good sounding version is the original USA Columbia edition from the 80s with catalog # C2Kxxxxx

If you want to go crazy and delve into the world of different pressings/masterings, go to Steve Hoffman's site. You'll find a ton of info, and will be left very confused...

I would guess that's probably the one I have (not at home so can't check), because when I started reading the thread, I was thinking "why would anyone need to redo The Wall?" It's one of the very best-sounding CDs I own

The CD I have was my Dad's and he said it was one of the first CDs he ever got. The number was C2K 36183 so is that one of the better sounding copies?

Is it just me or does the MFSL sound like it has tighter and more prominent bass?

It's not you, the MFSL has boosted bass, but I wouldn't call it "tighter", though.

I'm with Mark. Get the original USA Columbia or the Harvest pressing.

I absolutely loved the MFSL version for a few times. Now I've gone back to my 1994 Original Records CD release. Don't ask me why, but the MFSL has some extra liveliness that didn't strike me as Floyd-esque after awhile.

Or maybe I've simply gotten too used to my 1994 version...

Ok lol then I'm not crazy. The added bass I think makes the record a tad bit better sounding than the other copy I got.
