Hello

The volume knob on my Audioengine A2 (non plus) started producing loud static whenever I touch it over the last week and today I discovered it is also kicking out power. Not much but while I was adjusting the knob I touched the metal body of an unplugged TV decoder and shocked myself. Again not much but its worrying. Is this something I can fix by googling how to take apart the active speaker and cleaning the pot or should I just box these things before they fry something?

Thanks.

That definitely sounds odd.  It might just be static electricity.  If it happens every single time you touch it though, that seems like it could be something else.  If you haven't already, I'd recommend opening a technical support ticket at our support portal here: http://support.audioengineusa.com/support/tickets/new

If it's an issue with the speakers, you'll want to send them in for service.  All Audioengine products carry a 3 year warranty.  If it's outside the warranty we offer low cost non warranty repair options as well.

They are quite a but out of warranty I bought them in 2009! Before I open a ticket I live in Dublin Ireland, would that increase the cost of repair considerably?

It might still be worth running your issue past our tech guys through a ticket, just to make sure there's not something they can suggest.  If you need service in Ireland though, it'd be best to contact the Audioengine distributor for your market area.  Here's a link to their contact information on our website:
