I've had my AKG K1000 for a few months now, enjoying their sound very much. Lately together with a Trends TA10.1 t-amp and since yesterday trying it out with my Naim Headline headamp with surprisingly good results.

My main gripe with the earspeakers is their comfort. My Grado RS1s feel like a mild summer breeze to my head compared to the K1000s. Listening to a full album in one go is about all I can bare before the pressure of the small pads resting (clamping) above the ears gets too much.

I have read about a few people messing around with the pads themselves but the problem comes from the grip of the red metal bars.

Is there anyone here who have tried to bend the bars outward to lessen the clamping force? I'm a bit afraid to use excessive force on my precious phones....

Thankful for any advice to let me enjoy them fully for longer periods.

Ok, this might be a stupid suggestion, but...

When I first had the K1000, I did not know the leather pads on each side pulled apart. With them closed up, the K1000 is very uncomfortable. If you also did not know they pull out, do so, and see how much better it feels

I couldn't find a proper blush smiley to show how I actually look right now.

I can't believe how I could have missed this?!?! I feel quite stupid...

Thank you for the very fast respons. Trying it out right now and it definitely feels better. Thanks again!

Took me a while to discover that neat trick too so you are not alone.

I too was clueless about the sliding pads at first, so you should feel that you are not at all alone on this one!

I also did not understand the role of the tabs at the front, which lock or unlock the swivel. I think a lot of people miss that too, and therefore the "locks" don't do much on many pairs because people force them in the locked position. Good locks are quite nice because you can maintain the listening angle much better. If sliding the pads does not solve the clamp issue, I would not hesitate to try to stretch the bars apart slightly.

Cheers, and happy, more comfortable listening!

My K1000s fit a bit loose, but comfortable.
Cheers!

Yea, when I had a listen to the K1000, they did feel a bit tight. Not as bad as the new HD650 grip though.
