.No that's Ok - the debate has been rehashed a few times anyway.

James has already said that it won't compromise cost, or size.  Look at what they built into the M3 if you'd like an example :wink:

I just jumped in on this thread, I didn't read much, my bad. Just jumped into the conversation on that page.

Excellent point of the M3... I have faith in Fiio. They've always done good IMHO.

to me it really doesn't matter what they call it.
2 full sized SD card slots alone make it no brainer.

Exactly!! I don't care what they or anyone else call(s) the T3. What I care about is that it has 2 full sized SD slots. None of Fiio's current DAPs has those.

In fact, thinking back from my 7+ years at Headfi, I can only remember hearing one or two DAPs with 2 full sized SD slots. Yes, you can adapt microSDXC to full SDXC using ugly/inconvenient adapters, but stock full slots are much better.

I don't mind paying extra for digital output, but I want headphone output at the very least. I started at Headfi in 2009 using a Creative DAP outputing coaxial siginal to a balanced DAC then to a balanced amp. I was among the first to adopt (balanced) LCD2 and CIEMs too. I heard more difference in headphones and amps and would rather put my money into those first. Nowadays, it is not that easy to make poor sounding DAC and headphone (or line) output with a decent integrated circuit. You are buying a Fiio, remember - that brand means good quality / cost ratio. And it is not like having DAC/amp there in a "transport" will ruin it - the technology is already there to allow all in one good package that does not cost much.

This unit may be a good reason to stop messing with modfied old ipods.  Some people have those up to 1 GB but it seems like there are issues relating to file transfer.  This should be much simpler.  It should make a great portable car jukebox (I know that is not the intended market but some of us like a big library to suit one's moods.

This is perfect. Just a few suggestions: Make it works with USB-powered DAC and also no headphone out (if I want Headphone-out I would rather use my DAP). Pricing around 150-200$ would be acceptable :)

It will be interesting to see what the T3 will be.
I think the majority of decisions have been made by now.

From the descriptions so far from James I am more than happy, most of my criteria have been met

  BTW, we have make decision about the DAC/AMP section, people can pretend it does not exit. good to everyone now

James, since you've decided to add a DAC/amp, while you're at it, could you make it compatible with the K5 docking connection, if not too complicated, of course...It would make the whole package more attractive to a wider audience, I believe

I understood the key feature of a transport is digital output. I was just saying I personally don't have to have it - I view the T3 as a product for my own use/consideration. I really wanted a digital transport back in 2009, but I personally don't need it now. Priorities changed.

Fiio may run another poll:

Do you want T3 to have:
1) digital transport only, to save cost;
2) headphone and line out only, to save cost;
3) both 2) and 3) with aditional X USD$ as cost.

I bet many people will still buy the T3, if it only has dual full SD slots, AptX and headphone out (without any digital output). Most people will probably choose 3). Run the poll and let us find out.

OFC 3) Good Line-Out must be for full compatibility with all Fiio's product line.

These had been discussed throughout this thread, personally I don't think there is a need for this poll here.

Maybe a new thread titled "Transport Only what's your desire"

Yes, I have changed the title for this thread, people can regard T3 as DAP which born for bundle but also a decent DAP.

And if we already own the K5 (because of FiiO X7 docking feature)? Do we can upgrade the original K5 with a adaptor or something? Or do we need to buy a 2nd K5 to get the FiiO T3 working?

From the proposed specs sheet

That will do me fine
