We sent a demo system of the RAAL-requisite SR1a Ribbon Headphone with the Schiit Jotunheim R DAC/Amp over to our friend The Tech Collector on YouTube. We actually had no idea he was going to make a video review of the system, but the RAAL SR1a has a tendency to leave a strong impression on people.

If you are seriously into headphones (or speakers) these ribbon headphones are something you'll want to experience.

The Tech Collector says "it is a headphone that in my experience outdoes 99% of what I have heard across any headphones in the 20 years that I’ve collected headphones. I’ve had all the big ones, I’ve had the Sony R10, the classic Grados, a lot of the STAX like the SR-009..."

I would like to read an impression of someone who has hooked these up to a big amp. Say a Boulder. And a crazy great DAC as well.

I've seen some Japanese photo of people connecting them to massive 50w class A tube mono blocks to drive them.
Claim to be the best combo with tube amps.

The RAAL are legit! I would say half the fun I have with the SR1a is trying them on a variety of speaker amps. And if you just want to use the standalone amps, the Jot R is an amazing amp to go with it, the HSA-1a (soon to be HSA-1b) was buttery smooth last time I heard it.

What issues did you face with the design ?
I did not buy it because of the awkward design even when it is probably better than the stax 009 I own. But I do not see myself sitting with a headphone designn that looks it originate from alien technologie. I rather have a more conventional round design. I dont want to be the laughing stock of my friends,. Yes, weak, I know.
