The Stax SR-L500 and SR-L700 Impressions Thread

I had both for a while. they are the same driver with different tuning bcz of cable pad , the driver tuning itself is little different too l700 is technically superior while l300le is bassier and more forgeving for bad recording
You are wrong, they don't have the same driver, only the same stator.

The L700 has a more relaxed sound, with some very nice trebles but with a bass somewhat fair. The L300 Limited seems warmer, but it lacks the precision and finesse of the L700's treble.

Anyone who thinks that the L300 limited is like an L700 or looks like it, I think it's wrong.

Dud relax i live in japan and speaks Japanese, and i called the stax headquarter engineer (who was fixing my l700), also in another occasion the stax seller representative both told me they are the same driver inside/out. Actually they sound so similar and without a direct A/B you wont tell the difference. Where are you getting that info ? ...

I am in audio wonderland. L700s are [not surprisingly] an upgrade in basically every facet compared with the Koss ESP 950. Amazing detail retrieval!

is nice you like L700, but is not an upgrade of Koss 950. it is a matter of taste, I kept 950 and sold L700 due those have less natural sound to me

Very relaxed. How come others say its totally different sound and you say almost same, broken headphones or ears?

I think this should have been called the L700 thread

I did think about the L700, but didn’t bother to audition it as at twice the price, I couldn’t really afford it. So I blissfully ignored it, and just listened to the L500. Via the SRM-252s.

I ordered them. I haven’t enjoyed music as much for years. Whilst I was in the store, I literally had to wrench them off my head, as I realised time was disappearing- it was my first estat experience, and something I wanted to try. I’m a huge tube guy, and for the once, I didn’t think about amps, as it was deeply satisfying in that connection with the music. Treble was beautifully smooth. Yes, bright, but not harsh. I’m lucky as the seal was perfect, so I got all the bass I wanted.

Hopefully pick them up in a week, when they arrive!

There's no such thing as "bad" Stax :) Enjoy your new toys when they arrive!

guys I will share my ultimate mode for stax l300ltd , it sure should work with l700 but i dont konw for sure. I have tried over 20 mods for stax l300 / l700 / l300ltd, but could not find a mode that would ever work on l700 or l300ltd as they always tend to introduce more problems, or worsen the sound. Now I have using this mod for a week (relatively short period) but the result is exceedingly excelled I could not hold any more. I will share it.
1- reverse the the grills on cups, eg. unscrew and left side and stick it to the right speaker, screw again. they match perfectly.
2- use stax stax 404 / etc dust covers, which are thick and help a lot to tame shortness, improve bass
3. use electric tap etc. to make partial seal mod,
what you get : better bass extension, improved image depth, less stoutness in upper mid range, overall warmer more refined sound. Also I really highly recommend using schiit loki and add 10 dp bass (specially with stax amps)

Can anyone tell me a dynamic or planar headphone that would sound the most similar to a Stax L300?

Hifiman Anada or Arya sounded so similar to l300ltd but with better bass extension! They only lose in extreme details retrieval which is stax strong area. In the other hand Anada Arya are more forgiving and easy to listen without fatigue, u can search for video compareson between stax and Anada in youtube
