Interesting thread.  I was tempted by a BHSE + SR009, but I will wait a little for first L700 listening report to know if it improve on the bass.  Also, any rumor on a successor to the SR009 will of course be more than welcome...

Thanks, crazychile, for the thread.  I'm very interested in the L700 if it's fuller sounding than older Lambdas.

Quick Tokyo show impressions vs. the 009s, both from a 007t amp were that the L700s don't have the upper-mid forwardness that can be off-putting. They are still quite bass-light, but even if they are less resolving than the 009s, something the degree of which I couldn't test, they are definitely more along the lines of a good 'stat choice to go with Stax's existing amps.

Exciting news to see a new TOTL Lambda SR-L700.

Also interested in audio impressions of Lambda SR-L500 vs:
   Airbow SR-SC11
   SR-404LE
   Lambda Nova Signature
   Lambda Normal Bias
   SR-207/SR-202
   Koss ESP950

Are the new 500 & 700 easier to drive than the 007 & 009 (new Lambda vs Omega) ?

I have a pair of L700, paired with 323S amplifier and Luxman source.

Very balanced, extremely resolving (as you would expect from an electrostat), and 'smooth', without any harshness in the treble. Bass is good, not as 'punchy' as my HD800, but it's really clean.

I like this headphone!

How is the midrange over the HD800?    And the comfort?

If you had to pick one only which do you think it would be?

Does anyone know if there are plans to replace the tube-based amplifier, the SRM-006tS, as well?
Usually these kind of releases go together...

I would take this L700 any day over HD800. There is no contest. More resolution, more exiting. And the bass is actually BETTER than HD800 after repeated listening (hours went by as I enjoyed it too much). Sub bass is phenomenal. The midrange is smooth, ever so slightly recessed or may be its the recording. Best paired with a highend and musical source. If you like being enveloped in incredible sonic information and still have great tonality, this is it. The presentation is not 'natural' in the sense that one normally wouldn't hear so much detail in live concerts. I recommend STAXs sold state amplifier for this headphone. No need for a tube to euphonize the sound.
