is it really that long ago since the 35th Anniversary Walky?… I'm getting really upbeat about 45th Ani' one (looks at zx2 and thinks 'you're so yesterday').
Same boat as others coveting a WM1A or better yet 1Z but really would only use on the go(I don't do desktop anymore, when home listen via 2 channel and HP out and lost my office at work so no need there). Really want the 500 to be the one; otherwise it'll be the used market for a WM1A for me.
So you are saying the WM1A will still be the cutting edge of Sony's Walkman series after release of the ZX500? That's what I expected, sounds reasonable.
I believe 80-90% of "performance" is based on how much you like a particular music track or album and how well that album was mastered. None of this has any bearing on what you use for playback. For example, one of my favorite albums is Beck's Morning Phase. I even purchased the 24/96 version. Guess what, I think it sounds great on every single playback device I own including my phone that compressed the original to 256K AAC.
IMHO, that remaining 10-20% of performance is dependent on gear so if somebody says model A is 50% better than model B, the weighted performance comes out to +5-10% using my logic. Certainly not worth it purely based on $ per percent.

Yeah this oldish news now, they seemed to have published late on this, but looks good doesn't it. Love the DAT player. Used the D3 in the late 90's before it broke.
