Hello to all on this my first post, great forum for research, that’s for sure.

Well, looking at building the ultimate portable rig, money is no object, and would love some ideas, advice and suggestions on what direction will take it to the top of what the high end has to offer.
I’m actually building it for my cousin who travels the world a lot as a fashion designer, so want it to look pretty cool and all that to keep her happy. She listens to a far bit of dance and bands like the Artic Monkeys and the likes.

So I had an iMod 5G in mind for the source, and will get her a pair of custom UE11. So hope that’s around the best for that?

Amp wise, the RSA Hornet, Move, Xin Reference (although I read the wait is long), or maybe even the LISAIII, although the LISA might be a little too big, for I know she will want it all in a cool little rig bag.

Plus of course an ALO doc cable, or Microshar, I really don’t know, but this site seems to be the place to ask.

And of course a cool rig bag to boot when she is done if anyone has any suggestions, that would be great.

Well I hope I’m heading in the right high end portable rig direction, I really have no idea, only what I have read, once again, money is no object so please hit me up with something that will blow these fashion model bitches away lol.

Peace.

P.S I’ll up load some pics when she’s all done.

Thanks in advance guys, truly appreciated.

Are you sure she doesn't mind the bulk of iMod+Amp?

I would recommend a Kenwood HD30GB + UE-11, trully ultraportable and very good sounding.

But if she insist on sheer SQ and stuffs like that go for iMod 5.5 30GB + RSA Tomahawk + ALO Cotton Dock + UE-11. Note I recommend RSA Tomahawk because of the superb SQ plus atomic battery life plus low profile body. Xin amps will take too long to obtain and Corda Move a bit too fatty for a woman.

Hope this helps

Whoa, fun.

It's like playing Santa for someone else, heh.
Agree with EFN on his first point, make sure she understands how big the rig is going to be, and that she'll have to carry 2 devices + the earphones with your setup.

Don't really have anything to add to your rig as you've pretty much hit the nail on the head when it comes to "most expensive" or "ultimate", lets just hope she won't be running downloaded 128 kbps iTunes files through them, that would be like pissing in the holy grail.

Its a lot more fun playing with options like these when you are playing with other people's money. It just doesn't hurt as much.

O.k I see what EFN means by the Kendwood-UE 11's very Ultrashizzalbe indeed, thanks for the pic with the case Night Surfer, I think I will get the Kendwood as well, for ultraportable musical times.

If bulk in the main rig was not a prob, EFN (or anyone of course), may I ask, why the iMod 5.5 30g, and not the 80g?

Why the Tomahawk and not the Hornet? Although the longer battery life in the Tomahawk would be excellent, and being a little slimer would probably be a little more "chick" for her to I guess.

Also why the AOL Cotton Dock and not the Jumbo Cryo X Silver?

Truly, I don't mind the extra little dollars here and there, just looking for the Maximus Augustus Wiz Shizzleness...

Oh and may I ask, what in the name of the Audio Gods are balance cables on a set of UE 11's and does this have a notable effect on SQ?

Thanks for the link to the package FMT, seems like a cool hassle free way to go as well, interesting, however I might stick with a Kendwood for the ultra, plus have a main amped portable rig with the Tomahawk by the looks of things for long car/plane trips etc...

Thanks guys, much appreciated...

Lol, no tk3, I'll make sure only lossless format is in the grail cup...

The Tomahawk is designed especially for IEM's. And it's smaller than the Hornet of course.

EFN, I take it you recommend this combo, including the ALO Cotton dock, because all in all, its a slim little combo, not to bulky and all that for a chick?

I was reading, that the Hornet and UE11's have a nice synergy thats all, so thought it might would be the way to go.

Would you recommend the Hornet over the Tomahawk if it was an 80gig iMod, and size didn't matter?

Even though like Dzjudz quoted, the Tomahawk, is made for IEM?

None the less, I think I know where you are coming from, size wise etc with the above combo.

Thanks again for the advice, this is quite addictive...

I will still recommend Tomahawk because it has been sized and tuned specifically for highly efficient IEM/Cans. But it takes time for a Tomahawk to burn in because of the big sized cap used. 80GB iMod is highly recommended if you don't mind the size - and very good battery too. My 80GB iMod runs perfectly for almost 11 hours on ALAC non stop.

My PURE money no object my rig would be:

- iMod 5.5 + 120GB Samsung HDD Upgrade ($900)
- 950 mAh Battery Upgrade ($30)
- Custom iMod Dock with Nordost Copper Cable + V-Caps (Teflon Model) - ($800)
- UE-11 ($1200) or UE-10 ($900)
- XIN Reference or RSA SR-71 - Averages around ($500)

Then I would be VERY happy
