The Sennheiser HD580 Impressions Thread

I wouldn't put much hope in burn-in changing the sound on these phones. Mine didn't change a bit. A better dac/amp should improve things.

Just changed my HD580 grills to HD600 grills. For Head-Fiers in Canada don't hesitate to order from Sennheiser! They shipped my grills to Toronto in less than a week!

I don't know (or care) if its a placebo effect but the sound seems to be slightly more airy. One things for sure, they look 30 times better with those hideous blue grills gone.

I have a question: what is the part's number for the HD600 grills (in Canada)? Thanks!

I don't know... but... just call them or email them, and tell them what you want. You'll have no problems ordering the grills.

This is what Sennheiser Canada told me in an email.

Quote:

092815 HD600 Cap ring with perforated sheet

The price is 4.67 plus 11.50 for shippiing.

So that's about $20 for a pair. It's certainly not a deal, but the price isn't as bad as it could be.

That's about right - as I recall they're about $10 each.

I have no idea if that's the correct part number, or description - you'll have to rely on your discussions with the Senn rep to confirm that's the same thing as the grills/screens.

Thanks for the info!

Oh, yes, forgot to mention: just joined the rank of HD580 owner yesterday. Saw a for sell ads on a Canadian audio website late last week and now I've a pair of new-to-me 580 w/ Cardas Headphone cable.

Just ordered a pair. The price is still $4.67 per piece.

Just installed the HD600 Cap rings with perforated sheet today. I think they sound a bit more open with a tighter bass now.

BTW, the perforated surface is soft! I've already made a couple of dents

Yes... they are - you have to be pretty careful with them.

You can likely "pop" them out, or gently press them out, if they won't "pop." The HD650 grills are more rigid and tend to "pop" out. The HD600 grills may be so soft you have to "work" out any dents. But, you should be able to do that, if you work them carefully.
