The Playstation 4 Pro is Out!

Rise of the Tomb Raider looks excellent I haven't been able to settle on the increased frame rate or increased graphic fidelity. It's been a very fun game to play too.

I have to imagine this game looks sick on a PC all maxed out.

I was disappointed to hear that there are no plans for a Pro patch on Witcher 3 as well. I'm putting a PC together this next month so I guess I'll save that one for a Steam purchase.

For the price I think they did a helluva job! I went and bought a new 4k tv to go along with the Pro and am very satisfied. Battlefield 1 looks awesome for a multiplayer and Uncharted 4 and Tomb Raider are amazing! The graphics, lighting and textures are stunning. I was gonna build a PC this fall but the Pro will do perfect for me.

Keep us posted!

I ultimately upgraded to a Pro for $170 extra, so I'm content for now until I can build a gaming PC next year.

I did pick up a Samsung KS8000 (65-inch), everything looks great.

My stepfather recently got the curved version (65KS8500). It really is a solid TV. HDR looks fantastic on it. I currently have an LG C6 Oled, and wouldn't have been mad with a KS8000/8500.

Yes, oled is better for some things, but a 65-inch would have been out of my price range.

The blooming is annoying in dark scenes, but everything else about it is excellent.

Vizio P series is pretty aces, and the 65" goes for around the same price as the KS8000/8500 a lot of the time. I did own it, and I think I actually prefer it over the OLED, due to the OLED being blurrier in movement than I'd like. The P series has strobing settings which really make the movement look like a CRT/Plasma. And the local dimming is spectacular. The blacks were really deep, and the blooming was very hard to see, if impossible, unless you sit to the side of the TV.

I'm currently having issues with the OLED dropping signals, and going black screen with the PS4. Didn't have that problem with the Vizio.

IPS has low native contrast that doesn't come close to meeting HDR spec. Black levels are far, far inferior to VA panels, especially ones with local dimming. So in dark environments, IPS retains the murky grey blacks which kills contrast.

Here's a good read about it.

High contrast is one of the requirements for HDR. So all IPS HDR displays aren't close to true HDR. VA also isn't quite true HDR in general either, but comes closer.

Might also be worth noting that perceived 4K quality is dependent on your display, especially size. I have a projector with a 108 inch screen at 1080p. I can't wait for affordable native 4K projectors since at that size, the difference is very noticeable. Not so much on something 48 inches or less, where the refresh rate would be the improvement.

It's all about size to distance ratio. 4K can be perceived even in 40inches, as long as seating distance is close. Like computer monitor close.

Have a Samsung KS8000 incoming.  Just need a good bundle on the Pro to jump aboard the 4k gaming train.
