I think GWN knows a fellow in Ottawa that sells them. You may want to pm him. Actually, if you find out, please post a follow up here. I need to buy 4 9v's and a recharger for my RA-1.

Maha Powerex makes a NiMH 9v rechargeable that is electrically the same as the Plainview ( 9.6v, 170mAh, fast-charge capable ). gsferrari and Salt Peanuts have good reports for the Maha Powerex based on their experience with them on this thread: http://www5.head-fi.org/forums/showthread.php?t=76671 There is also a link given to a site at which the Maha Powerex 9v's can be purchased.

I don't know that. You'd have to check the specs of the charger against the specs of the batteries to ensure that they're compatible. Given that the Maha Powerex 9v batteries have the same electrical properties as the Plainviews, it's likely enough to make the spec check worth the effort.

You'll have to be sure that the charger can output at least 10.5V in order to correctly charge the 9.6V batteries. I've seen chargers that output only 9.0V, which cannot correctly charge even 8.4V batteries (which require at least 9.2V output on the charger in order to be correctly charged) - they can properly charge only 7.2V batteries.

Looks like the site is down as well. Did they go out of business?

I've been to plainviewbatteries.com. It took me to a page that states that their Web site is being redesigned.

And indeed the 170mAh 9.6V Plainviews were discontinued. (Although they may come up with a somewhat higher-capacity version of those 9.6V batteries in the fnear future.)

If the Plainview charger could charge the Plainview 9.6V batteries fully, and the Maha Powerex 9.6V are the same, then wouldn't it stand to reason that the Plainview charger could adequately charge the Maha Powerex 9.6V?

Checked with the folks at Plainview today. The PBNH1606A 170mA 9.6v Plainview NiMH battery has NOT been discontinued.
