Well I went and listened to that old McIntosh MA-230 integrated amp today, and although it did sound good, I do not think that it will work for my headphones. Granted it did some things extraordinarily well, like the low end for example (just as Kevin and Mkmelt predicted it would

). The soundstage was too compressed however and it was a little noisy, well maybe really noisy, when nothing was playing. It is really too bad, because it sounded absolutely fabulous when hooked up to a speaker setup!!!!!! Well, I think I am going to try Matboy's Corda as a replacement for my X-CANv2.

at this age it needs all new electrolytics and a decent
set of tubes. Properly maintained it should have no
noise whatsoever.

The tubes in it were only a year old, so perhaps it just needed to be cleaned up a little.
