I thought the same thing about balanced output, until I tried the Calyx M...

I'm sorry to repeat, but the DX220 is in another level, it's impossible to compare the Sony ZX300 and the DX220.
I get a very stunning audio quality with the 4.4mm cable. Since the AMP8 is only balanced amp, I use the IE800S with a permanent cable 4.4mm.
When I want to hear something on my laptop, then I use the "4.4mm to 3.5mm single ended" converter by FiiO (LL 4.4).
For me there is no sense anymore to use the single ended, really.
This has me chortling with laughter lol

I see, thanks for details.
Portability is very important for me that's why I'm comparing from this point of view also, excepting SQ.

Anyone had some problems with their cables already? From the Y-Split up to the earpiece?

After much comparison, I conclude that I cannot decide whether or not balanced is better than SE.
I think of balanced output as listening to a concert in a church, while SE is more akin to listening in a small venue. More intimate, but some intricacies get lost.

A concert in a church is acoustically superior, but sometimes the church can prove perhaps a tad too big for the sounds at hand.

I'm just very glad to have been provided with both options for the IE800S. Now they're on the balanced connection again, tomorrow I might feel more attracted to the 'small venue '

i didn’t have problems with the cable but if you need repairs, I sent mine to Vesper Audio for mmcx conversion and couldn’t be happier with the results.

Just asking to see if there are long term concerns with cables. Wow, you mean you had yours converted? Do you have any pictures on how they look after the mod?

I have both IE800 and IE800S. I wear them over ear, with left earpiece in right ear and right in left. The angle works better for me. Before recabling the signals were obviously reversed but with mmcx the left and right signals match up with the actual earpiece in my ear. Also, wearing over ear was next to impossible with the stock cable and short distance from the Y split.

Am using IE800 s with a RME ADI-2dac. Am wondering has anyone EQd the 800s IEMs? Asking cause have found a online eq setting for my HD650 phones that has made a huge difference in the phones, but terrible on the iem.

In my experience equalisers worsen the overall experience. Sound engineering is a complex field, don't tweak yourself is what I say.

I used to do that to gain more treble, but really after going 'direct source' it's so obvious what I missed all those years.

The IE 800 was a favorite of mine, but ultimately, I had trouble with the tips coming off too easily every time I took them out of my ears and ended up giving it to my son. Does the 800S use the same method to attach the stock silicone tips? For those that owned the IE 800 and bought the 800S, is the tonal character the same, or has it been changed?

Thanks for any input ...

I had the IE800 and currently have the IE800S.

The design is exactly the same, just cosmetic changes. So to answer your question, yes, the tips have the same method of attachment.

Tonal character is the same. The S is just a frequency response adjustment - chills out the sub-bass and treble peak. The mids are slightly more forward.

OK, thanks for your reply.
