The Official Sennheiser IE800S thread!

so is the ie800s such a huge improvement and not a disappointment to it's predecessor? as the standard ie80 is better than the ie80s?
Wait, you're asking about the IE-eighty? Not the original IE-eight-hundred?

The IE800 blows the IE80 out of the water in every way, shape, or form. The lack of a "bass knob" alone is an improvement. I've owned both.

I believe he's asking if the IE 800 S is as much an improvement to the IE 800 as the IE 80 S was to the IE 80.

Ahh, got it. Well there you have it both ways, haha.

I agree, also had both, also did the upgrade from IE80 to Ie800, IE800 is simply another world entirely :)

Today, I'd like to express my utmost disappointment with Sennheiser IE800s quality control. As I already have and have been using IE800 for over a year I thought it would be a no brainer to upgrade and get a fresh pair of IE800S to couple with my newly purchased AK SP1000M only to find out that TRRS 2.5mm balanced adapter was faulty and the IEMs wouldn't play music through it. I tried it with my wife's AK SR15 to rule out hardware issues, but alas... I could not believe that a product which costs as much as $1500AUD would have a faulty adaptor cable. Anyway I decided to suck it up and headed back to the store (official distributor) where I purchased the IEMs to ask for the adaptor replacement from a demo unit BUT it wouldn’t work neither with mine nor with their demo IEMs!!! After trying multiple cable permutations, we could definitely conclude that it was the adaptor cable. The batch number of my set was #304. The batch number of the demo set was #300. Pretty close. I could only assume the whole batch might have had the same problem. I opted for full refund as I wouldn't wish to wait extended period of time for the replacement part of a HI-END! product as I firmly believe that such merchandise must have had exceptional quality control before it reached the shelves.

The whole experience with Sennheiser IE800S top of the line IEMs is ruined for me.

For headfiers who are reading this, I would suggest to test their 2.5mm TRRS adaptor cables and replace them before the warranty runs out.

Attaching the photo of my invoice as proof.

So sorry to hear that. My 2.5 balance cable is working fine though I have not tested the 4.4 one.

I would like to use my 800S's with my Cowon Plenue S which has a 3.5 balanced output. The 3.5 end needs to be L+ R+ L- R-
the 800S 2.5mm socket is L+ L- R+ R- so I'm assuming if there is no aftermarket cable I'll need to get one made, does anyone know
of a source for such a cable and if not, then a good place to get one made. (Or have I got it wrong?) Thanks in advance.

Not exactly. Double check pin assignment for IE800S below:
