The Official Sennheiser IE800S thread!

What makes you think it’s better? How are the microphonics? Are the smallest tips really small?

I haven't heard the sound of the Technics model - as I said before, but I think the Sennheiser IE 800 S is surely superb enough. I'm using this this model with an Astell and Kern SR 15, and it sounds really amazing. The Technics model is pricier, but its cable is fully interchangable (by the Sennheiser model the cable can you replace just by the upper part (on the jack connection side). Mostly cable issues are really here. The Sennheiser IE 800 S hasn't got microphonics anyway. The smallest tip is here really very small.

I am searching for a DAC/Amp for my Sennheiser IE800S. I am new to personal audio and really indecisive with all the choices out there, have been going around in circles lately reading and watching reviews. Three I am considering are.

Sennheiser HDV820
Sony TA-ZH1ES
Chord Hugo 2

Or can I do better, sound quality wise, with something else around this price range? I do not need portability and exclusively listen to music, and often watch movies on my PC. What DAC/Amp do you use with your IE800S?

I have a Hugo 2 (+2go) and use it with my IE 800 S frequently. I got the H2 more to pair with my KSE 1200. Thought it'd be overkill for the IE 800 S, but I found it brings out the best in them and gives off a very pleasing sound. It squeezes out every ounce of detail outta them and really shines their 3D space. Both have a naturality and smoothness to their sounds which makes for an agreeable match.

The H2 with my KSE can sometimes come off as too neutral (though I still adore the immense amount of detail/clarity in the pairing). This is where the warmth of the IE 800 S is in favor.

I'm thinking of picking up the IE800S with the Astell SR25, good to hear it's a good pairing. Having trouble deciding between the IE800S and spending a bit more for the Solaris 2020, anyone tried both and can comment?

I ordered the IE 800S on Saturday directly from Sennheiser and, according to the last UPS update, it arrives tomorrow. Looking forward to it. There are very few reviews out there. I opted for it on hearing that it does justice to vocals and mids in general, which is what I love about my HD-600.

And here they are, the IE 800 and the IE 800S side by side. Amazing timbre on both. They are both brand new. To my ears the 800 has a bit more bass but also more sparkle in the highs. Overall I prefer the 800S. I would be happy with either, even happier with both. :)

Yep, I also preferred the IE 800 S and sold my IE 800. Though, sometimes miss the extended highs and thumpy lows, prefer balance. And the mids of the new ones aren't as recessed. That's what killed me with the OG's. Love me mids.

I had them both at one time but decided to keep the 800S so the OG had to go. You won’t go wrong with either of them. The 800S is the more organic natural sounding between the 2 to my ears. But just by a bit.

Have to say, I did like the aesthetics of the OG way better. It looked special like the earphone is. The new one is too plain/standard.

I like the finish on both versions. Knowing that it's ceramic gives it a quality feel in both versions. I will not lie, if the old version had the same finish, I wouldn't have bought it (I first got the 800S). But the different finish and finding it brand new for a good price meant I couldn't resist also ordering the 800.

I must say the new cable is quite improved: a few extra cm make a difference, the reduced stiffness, the red mark.

I read about the microphonics issue. I know the microphonics issue in general from a rather nice aftermarket cable I bought in the past. But here my experience is zero microphonics. I guess it's because I wear them overear? They don't even stay in otherwise, and I feel very comfortable with them overear. It does however make the IE800 cable feel even shorter.
