I think your brain is coming round to the fact that bass quality is more important than bass quantity :)
Thankfully these iems don’t have more bass than the music intended, but do have extremely good tight or solid bass when required.

@AndrewH13 How does the IE800/IE800S pair with the XDP-100R?

I'm looking at picking up the IE800S but I'm seriously tempted by the recent drop in price of the IE800. Does anyone have any thoughts?

I've found the Pioneer to be a fairly neutral DAP, so what you hear is pretty much the sound of the iem/headphone. ie800S is a great all-rounder, not supressing bottom or top end, so unless you love a cosy warm sound, its great.
The ie800 is also worth considering at reduced price, maybe a touch more forthright and not quite the 'togetherness' of sound. But I would still rate it at £600, so if you can pick up for less, and funds wont stretch to the 800S, go for it.

I’m quite lucky I barely get any microphonics even when I move around. As for the sound, when I first got them they were, thin and bright but now my brain is growing accustomed to the sound they are well balanced with touch of warmth, the treble no longer stands out like a sore thumb.

For anyone that thinks is driver break in it’s not be because I got a second new set and they sound identical to the pair with 200ish hours on the clock.

Haha, very true!!! Maybe only 3,500!! I've been following the thread for a while. I unsubscribed and couldn't find it again. The recent price drop made me finally pull the trigger.
