Haha, the U12t is fast becoming the 'palette cleanser' of high-end IEMs, the lemon sorbet among a feast of flavours. Tired of your overly aggressive and forward IEMs? U12t. Too much bass thickness and warmth for one day? U12t. Way too bright and shiny? U12t. It's safe, solid, and tuned right down the middle, totally inoffensive with top-class technicalities. But most who own it do so along with other more 'exciting' IEMs because, ultimately, lemon sorbet isn't very exciting on its own.

Just ordered the A18S on Black Friday sale. I've had issues in the past with 2-pin connectors on JHAudio IEMs, so went with IPX this time around. I know the stock 64Audio 'professional' cable is not so go at least from an ergonomic standpoint, and I only see 2-pin upgrade cables on their site. So I was considering buying the (UE) SuperBax 50" with IPX. Has anyone tried it with the 64Audio IEMs using IPX connectors ?

Thanks for the question, the IPX connector is a great option. We took quite a bit of time implementing this connector because we wanted to have a proprietary IPX jack on the cable end that would be durable and have a bit of an angle to it. I would highly recommend sticking with our SPC cable as it is not only a really comfortable and low microphonic cable, it also has a curve for your ear loop (without a memory wire) and a much lower resistance than the other cables you mentioned. Since A18s has LID the frequency response won't be affected by the impedance change, but it will affect sensitivity. I believe Plus Sound is making premium options for the IPX connector, and we are also working on some more cable options that will be compatible with more of our IEMs

Just took the 64 Audio Duo out with me while I did a quick grocery run. I expected to enjoy some tunes while also being aware of what's going on around me, but I could hear everything, from the cars passing by to the wind blowing, don't even get me started on the subway trains running overhead. I've used open back headphones before, but always in the comfort of my home. Don't get me wrong, I did enjoy them on the way, but once I hit the markets the music was no longer enjoyable above the clamor of city life. I can see myself enjoying these on my walks on the boardwalk or on the beach, but these are definitely not commuter friendly.

Thanks for the perspective on this, they definitely give the experience of an open back system. We wanted to really illustrate this with one of the short films we produced for Duo, the way the listener in the video uses them in the comfort and quiet of his home is a really ideal way of enjoying these.

They should work perfectly fine. Unless there's something drastically wrong, there shouldn't be any differences between UE's and 64's IPX connectors. Besides, the SuperBax isn't technically a UE product anyway. The cable's made by Linum.

While Linum cables are a great innovation, in terms of the gauge of wire and strength (due to special fiber strands) it is a really interesting option, but we worked really hard to find a lower resistance option that worked better for our needs and functionally offered more (angled connector and no-memory wire ear loop). You also get the branded 3.5mm end if you pay real close attention to detail

Final Final Black Friday Update: Additional B-Stock Fourté added

I just purchased a B-stock pair of 64audio Fourté IEMs. I am in the process of acquiring a Chord Mojo, but until then I'm testing using my FiiO Q1 Mark II DAC/amp (at relatively low volumes).

Acoustic tracks sound fine but when I play tracks with distorted guitars, I get this weird shrill harsh sound in the upper-mids that just add a ton of noise to the tracks. It sounds awful. It doesn't sound like clipping and doesn't go away at lower volumes (though it gets proportionally worse at higher volumes). It ruins all instrument separation at those frequencies. It doesn't bleed into the super high frequencies (cymbals still sound crystal clear).

My previous IEMs do not have this issue at all (Fidue A83). What is this? Is this due to the IEMs not being broken-in, or maybe a poor source amplification? Could they be defective? That doesn't seem likely that both sides are equally defective out of the box.

A particular track that is a good example is "Finis Coronat Opus" by Orden Ogan, particularly the second-half of the track when the distorted guitars come in. It's actually not noticeable on most tracks, but a few just have so much of this "noise". Another track is "Wake Up" by Black Veil Brides that exhibits this.

Using a frequency generator, it seems to start at around 2 KHz, get really bad at around 3.7 KHz, and then fade away as you get into higher frequencies. It doesn't sound like a pure sine wave at all after 3.5 KHz, there's like an extra layer of noise, kind of like a whistling. It's hard to describe. It's similar to tinnitus, if you've ever had that, but really loud and layered on top of the actual audio being played.
