The number '4' being parsed as code in certain contexts

Just stumbled on this today. It wasn't a problem yesterday so I don't know what happened but every instance of the number '" class="bbcode_smiley" height="" src="smileys/[IMG]" title="[IMG]" width="" />' in boldface or italics is now being parsed as code for an image or smiley of some sort, which doesn't work on any browser.

As a result everything gets really, really screwed up. See here for an example - might require some scrolling to find a '" class="bbcode_smiley" height="" src="smileys/[IMG]" title="[IMG]" width="" />'.

The number [IMG] appears as a blue box with question mark. But only on my ipad. So i assumed my ipad is to blame.

It gets worse - if you edit your post again, the system will try to parse the 'missing smiley' itself and end up with an ugly chunk of code. Formatting will also be out of whack if the original 4 was formatted in any way. A few edits later the system will start deleting parts of the post in trying to make sense of the code.

This is too bizarre! And it's not just the iPad - my Mac is doing it too. (Safari [IMG].0.5 / OS 10.6.3)

See, it did it to my Safari version number (four.zero.five)

Doesn't have to be bolded or italicized.

If you try to edit more than once the systme may actually delete text after the screwed up smiley.

Apparently it also happens with quotes.

Also, for reference, I am using Win XP/Win 7 with Opera 10.60, FF 3.6, and Maxthon2. But it doesn't matter as this is not a browser issue but rather one with the platform.

Any chance of this getting fixed? I can't update my review threads without losing content because of this.

Seems to be all better. I've restored my thread from backup but the code I pulled after the issue this week was completely mangled. Hundreds of HTML errors and just random oddities. Scary.
